Terminator 2: Extreme or Ultimate edition
 

What is the difference between Terminator 2: Extreme and Ultimate edition? Thanks

The Ultimate Edition has the original and special edition cuts as its two main options (the version with the alternate end is an easter egg). There are more featurettes and BTS clips on the Ultimate, as well as a bunch of image galleries (as part of a multimedia "package"). I'm a sucker for the extras, so that's the version I keep, plus, the metal slipcase is nice too.

so does the Extreme Edition, you get both versions.

I got both for $10 each, so it's basically a nicely priced 4-disc SE.

Get the EE for the A+ transfer, the commentary, interactive mode, text commentary.

Get the UE for the 2nd disc with the supplements.

The downside to that Extreme Edition case, as discussed here a long long time ago, is how it tore up the plastic keep case every time you slid it out. They made the damn thing just a tad too small for the keep case to fit in.

I agree , though here is the best tip to overcome it:

Press & hold down the nose region of the T2 while sliding down the plastic keepcase inside.

Or just keep it inside where it wants to stay and watch the Ultimate Edition. ;)

Like others have posted, I would just go for both. I have both editions (although it was because I bought them as they came out).

Also, you can see a nice easy-to-read list of the differences at dvdcompare.net. You can filter on the UE and EE at the top.

As for the tin slipcover on the EE, once I got the DVD out of there, I just kept them separated, since I displayed the slipcover on my shelf, and just put the DVD in it's normal place on a different shelf.

I have both. I got the UE when it first came out with the metal cover. It was the 2-sided version which I later traded in for a 2-disk version.

I got the EE very cheap with the cardboard cover, which is the only reason I bought it. I guess its supposed to have a better picture, but no DTS.

I just bookmarked the dvdcompare site. Seems like I'll be spending some time in there comparing different versions of DVDs that I plan to purchase lol.

I'm browsing Amazon right now to see if I can get a hold of the EE and/or UE with metal cover. I'm leaning towards the EE due to its better picture quality.

The Extreme Edition also has a different commentary than the Ultimate Edition does. It has the "HD" version of the film, playable on Windows Media Player. It does not have the third cut of the film, available on the Ultimate Edition DVD, with the alternate ending.

The EE is in Wal*Mart's $5 bin, so it's not too bad if you wanted to supplement the UE.

I have both, but would like to get rid of the UE.

EE is good enough. Better transfers and both the original and extended cut (don't care for the alternate ending)

The main difference between the Extreme and Ultimate Editions are the audio commentaries:

Ultimate Edition's audio commentary is basically a bunch of edited sound bites from the cast and crew with a moderator throwing to them at certain points in the film.

Extreme Edition's audio commentary features James Cameron and the writer William Wisher.

IMO, Ultimate Edition's bonus features are far superior to Extreme which has a couple of weak featurettes that don't really focus on the making of the film.

BTW, I threw away my metal slip case for EE since it was damaging my DVD case.

Yep, I have both as well... I actually combined them into a 3-disc amaray case.

I got both too but I'm trying to get rid of my EE since I have no use for it...I can't even get the damn HD version to work and I have no desire to use that pile of software vomit called Interactual Player.

I still wish it had the metal slipcase, though.

The EE sort of has the "kitchen sink" cut. The alternate ending is presented as a branching segment at the end when you have interactive mode on. The deleted T-1000 search scene is also part of the branching. They even remastered both scenes in 2.35:1 16x9.
