This is about as stupid as if the Sex and the City movie came out, but was only available if you bought a season boxset. Or if the new X-files movie came out, but was only included on a re-release of one of the season boxsets. I can't see how HBO thinks it's a good idea to send the message that you shouldn't buy their DVD sets until a series is finished and off the air.

I'll just import it if HBO wants to screw over American fans.

I never got around to picking up Series 2, so I guess this won't be too bad..I'll just sell off the first set and get this one!

I still want the dvds.

Is it worth it to get the seasons for 13.49 in the Best Buy Thanksgiving sale online?

Will the Special be available separately?

lol the whole point of this thread existing is that the special will NOT be available separately. Not to make fun of you but that's the thread title.

Not available separately in R1, maybe.

I agree. It's a very poor message to send. Then studios wonder why their sales on some TV shows don't do so well on the first season or two. Probably because they like burning fans later on who jump into the show too early.

Sell 'em to WHO? I'll consider myself lucky if a used disc store gives me $7 for both of the first seasons. Chances are they'll either say they've never heard of it and won't take 'em or they'll say they already have half a dozen copies they can't move and don't want any more they can't sell.

Any way you slice it, this is just HBO charging $40 for the one disc they know we all want.

Watch HBO complain that no one's buying any copies of Season One of Gervais's next show, and then blame it on video games and illegal downloading.

It airs first in the US I believe so I'm not surprised it hasn't been announced on dvd over there.

Are they sure that the special will only be released with the gift set? TVShowsOnDVD.com has the news they've received, and although they say that the gift set will have the special with it, there isn't anything about whether or not the special will be available separately.

Sell them online through eBay or the Amazon Marketplace.

Well, the extra disc isn't more bonus features - it's an additional 83 minute show that wraps up the series.

Hmmm. They sold the "Office" Christmas special by itself. I'm surprised.

Still, I held off buying this hoping for a complete series collection.

I just noticed that the seasons are 10.99 each on Amazon. That's an even better deal considering no tax.

Right now the Amazon pre-order price on the complete set is 34.99. This means that I (and the others holding out) will be paying an extra 13.01 for just the special. <sigh>

I'm sure it'll be available seperately later. I already have season one from England, and will probably get season two from there too, after learning of the overdubs and also-shot bits for the US market.

Why do HBO hate its customers??? BBC Warner released "The Office - X'mas Special" by itself in addition to the complete collector's set....so why can't HBO do the same??? Aren't they all under Warner's distribution arm?
