I found Salo Used at FYE for $279: Visual Evidence Included.

I'm not sure if this is authentic, but it looked damn genuine. I was in a local FYE (West Long Branch, NJ) to scan for some used HD/BD movies. I came across this:

For the first time in my 10-year existence as a DVD fiend, I saw the notorious Criterion release of Salo for a whopping $280 used. As I said, it might be a bootleg, but I nearly shat a brick when I saw this and had to get a picture on my phone.

So, if any Monmouth County residents are on the forum and are willing to fork nearly $300 on this one, well, go ahead.

I checked if The Killer was put there by the same person, but alas, no luck.

How in the world do they get away with selling it for that much? Criterion needs to announce the re-release asap.

That has to be the most expensive used single movie I've ever seen in my life.

Actually, I found this in the "just in" section of used stuff. And by "just in", the DVD's of Batman Begins and V for Vendetta I dumped for the HD editions a good three months ago are still in there. But Salo looks like a new entry.

secondspin.com has 3 copies for 99.98. People probably realize a new one will be coming out.

Actually Ive been checking their site a long time and they never stocked this until the last month or so. I think it has to do with a new release. And everything Ive bought from them has been genuine. But you could be right. I recently bought hard boiled from them and it was genuine for one. When they first listed Salo it it was selling at 199 but they lowered the price a week or so ago.

The price must have gone down a lot. I remember finding one at Gamestop for $10 and selling it on ebay for enough to pay my rent for the month.

I don't know why, but I find it a tad offensive that FYE is selling a used item for that much money. I don't have any basis for this feeling other than it's just an emotional reaction. I would love to know what they did pay the customr for it. If they did shell out $75 to $100 then I could live with it, but I keep getting the nagging feeling that may not be the case. Any FYE employees here able to check their database for the trade-in value of Salo?

I find it offensive that anyone would buy ANYTHING from an fye B&M store.

wel if you don't have problems with rebates, fye does have some decent prices on dvd's/ exclusives at least online. the ONLY time, I've ever gone into a an fye and bought something was when they were selling the transformers steelbooks b/c typically their prices are way over priced.

I know that a lot of their used pricing with out of print stuff is based on what they see the items selling for on E-bay and Amazon. They figure if someone is willing to pay that much for it there, then they'd likely do the same in one of their stores, too. Is it a ridiculous price? Probably, but if someone's actually willing to pay that much for it, it's nobody's fault but their own. Remember, ultimately it's the idiots who pay these outrageous prices for stuff that drive up the sale value - not the person setting a price.

I looked it up in our system. The store buys it for $62.50 cash, or $78.12 store credit. A huge difference, to be sure, although seeing people on the Amazon Marketplace putting it up for $1,000 is just as, if not more, ridiculous, IMO.

Interestingly enough, in our system, a new copy would be $29.99.

Seeing as how I work at FYE, and get 30% off retail, I do plenty of shopping there (although I do go to Best Buy, Wal*Mart, and Circuit City plenty as well).

I would hope anyone with a complete collection of Criterion knows what's going on with their release schedule!

I was in the FYE in Clovis about 6 months ago and they had a copy of Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures that they were selling used. It was going for $75 because at the time there was no word that it would be coming out on it's own or going to be sold in the new Kubrick box set. I questioned why it would sell at the price that it was, and the guy told me that it's based on the worth of the dvd, if it's in print or oop ect. I asked that since this was going for $75 how much a copy of Salo would go for and he looked it up. He said that it would go for $150, which he asked why. I told him the story about the worlds most infamous oop dvd, which he shook his head. It was about 3 months latter that I was in Rasputin where I saw what looks like a good R0 bootleg copy of Salo selling for $9.99.
