I am in the process of moving and dealing with my movie collection which at this time is all over the house, shelves, coat closet etc. today I began to work on it as per some advice in another thread. I counted all the dvds I had to unwrap today and it was insane, I had 102 dvds still wrapped up, some of them were things i bought then may have seen at a freinds house or something, I had 39 in my stack of " to watch " still wrapped. I would say about 19 tv sets, and various others, i never thought it was that much i figured 50 including the stack in the living room of to watch. At the rate i purchase I will die before I watch everything.

Am I the only one, this will make me rethink what I need to purchase each week and what I can keep on my list to wait for the 9.99 or 4.99 price drop to the cheapo bin.

lol if you have 50+ sealed that arent even in the "to watch" pile, that's definatley considered collecting aggressively. but you know what they say - the best defense is a strong offense

for me its less then 10. but i was able to catch up a bit recently when i let somebody borrow all my Office seasons.

I also open right away, and one reason is to remember that I have it available. I would think that the people who unknowlingly buy titles they already have are more likely to be the type to pick something up and leave it wrapped. By removing the shrink wrap, checking out the disc and whatever may be inside, and entering the UPC in DVD Profiler or whatever, it causes me to remember that I have it, even if I don't watch it for a while.

I just got burned over the weekend with a sealed one. I need to start opening them when I buy them.

I bought Northern Exposure: Season 2 a couple months back and just got around to watching it this weekend. There were two disc 2s and no disc 1. I have no way to return it now.

My Heroes: HD set had a big gash on disc 5. I also got that back when it came out so I'm too far outside the return window for that one as well.

I will say there are times when I intentionally don't open a DVD. If I come across a super deal, but it's a title I'm not sure that I'll keep, I'll leave it sealed in case I decide to give it away as a gift or sell it.

I always open my DVDs up in the parking lot of the store I bought it at. If it has a scratch or wrong disc I go back in and get another one. This has only happened once that I can recall. Scratched disc.

Plus opening DVDs is kinda like opening christmas presents, you never know what might be inside.

As some people here said - opening a new DVD is a part of the fun. I'm always interested in how a booklet looks like, if there's any insert whatsoever. And if it's some special edition, many things can be hidden under the wrapper...

A couple are still sealed - Jay and Silent Bob do Degrassi, the 80s/90s Batman SEs, Scarface platinum, Scarface anniversary edition (83 + 32);Kyle XY season 1 - but mostly I do open them up to check that everything is where it should be, on at least two occassions I've left shops only to discover later that the wrong discs were in the case.

I guess alot of mine are sealed becuase I purchase things when they come out even though I know i will not get around to watching it becuase I do not want to forget to purchase it if i wait, i am going to make a strong bid to get them watched, but they all arer opened now, i guess the next question is how many DVDS do you have which have not yet been watched?

if its gunna sit there that long than you might aswell get rid of them.

People in this thread have confirmed my stupidity. I have around 50 titles unopened. Many could be defective for all I know.

The only one I have that is still wrapped is V For Vendetta. I netflixed it, found I liked it and instead of waiting to buy it when I felt like watching it again (like I normally do), I ran out and bought the limited lenticular cover from Target while the getting was still good.

Aside from that I do as other posters do - open it immediately to check the contents inside. However, this doesn't always help since often I don't play the DVD unitl much later...

I mentioned it in the post pictures of your collection thread that I really don't get how people can not unwrap movies. It should be done immediately at least to make sure the disc is actually in there.

When I am at the store, first thing I do is shake the dvd to make sure there are no loose discs. When I get home I open them to make sure there are no missing, scratched, duplicate discs. Luckily, I ahve never had to return a disc for any of these reasons.

I usually open everything as soon as I get it, but I do have 3 movies that have not been opened those being Amityville: It's About Time, Amityville: The New Generation and Ed Wood (but this was recalled that is why it's not opened)

The Amityville movies I didn't open right away because I was thinking about returning them. That was over 2 years ago now, but I just never remember to open them.
