What is a DVD slipcover ?
 

I know it may seem like a basic question but a friend and myself are having a disagreement. Is the slipcover the paper that goes between the plastic covering the case and the case itself or is it the usually cardboard but also sometimes hard plastic that slides over the entire DVD.

If its the second option then what is the paper called that goes between the hard plastic case and the outside protective plastic ?

If he's talking about the movie cover that slides in between the clear plastic and the rest of the box, it's referred to (at least in the industry) as a "slick".

It's the cardboard 'sleeve' that goes over the outside of the case. It is NOT the paper that goes in between the plastic black case and plastic.

Really? I thought it was an (outter) insert. Yeah I know, technicalities. But I did, one with the cover art plain and simple.

Its the cover insert that is the case overlay. The slipcover is just as the name implies...just as a slipcase is the box that a book slides into...

If you're a more visual person, the white thingy is the slipcover....

I'd consider that just a box, actually, because of how it slides horizontally and holds more than one case.

a pain in the ass, because i need to have them to make my dvds "complete"

I always refuse to buy a movie that I want if it doesn't have a slip cover because I know that is the way the company made it and wanted people to have it so if I have a movie that I bought without a slip cover and then later come to find out it has one then I most likely do not watch that movie again until I can find it in a slip cover. Well unless it's a movie I really love alot then I watch it no matter what..LOL!

Seriously, who cares what some junior marketing executive decided? If anything, you're missing out on looking at the exact same artwork twice. Huge loss there, I know.

"Cover" ?

The chapter notes or other materials that come with the DVD on the inside opposite the disc(s) is called the

"Insert or Inserts" ?


So if you had a complete DVD and were telling your homies you would say I picked up Lion King at the pawn shop and it came with the

I selected Lion King becasue its somewhat rare to find with all the parts.

That's how I feel. Most of them get pitched.

Once upon a time, we had a multi-page thread on the intricate details of how to remove the wrapping from a DVD movie. .
