if they re-released "Gilligan's Island" as a single-sided disc, would you double-dip?

Right now, the excellent sit-com Gilligan's Island is available as an annoying double-sided disc, for all three seasons. You can't just sit and have a 24-hour Gilligan marathon (if you have a 5-disc CD player) with a double-sided disc, because you have to get up and flip the disc over.

Would you double-dip if they released box-sets of Gilligan's Island with single-sided discs?

mike2 10-20-07 09:00 AM

Hmm i dont' have a 5disk player but if they'd come out with a single...ya i'd definitely buy it!

scottp120 10-20-07 09:02 AM

I bought all 3 not too long ago at Best Buy for $15 a piece, but no I wouldn't double dip. Not worth it.

JOE29 10-20-07 09:58 AM

I have the first season, so far. But I still wouldn't double dip either.

RobCA 10-20-07 10:21 AM

At the risk of threadcrapping, I wouldn't even single-dip. ;)

Rob

Cardsfan111 10-20-07 10:35 AM

I wouldn't double-dip for that reason alone...

Bronkster 10-20-07 10:50 AM

As much as I dislike flippers, I don't watch any DVD enough for that to be the only reason to re-purchase it.

Albert71292 10-20-07 06:32 PM

I'm quite content with the current DVDs I have of the series. Had to return one set to the store though, the one with the episode where Mary Ann thought she was Ginger... had freeze-ups... replacement copy played fine.

/drinkin' again
//yes, tried it in multiple players, still froze up
///decided to put 2 cents worth into this thread :-)

If that happened, I'd buy the 2-sided discs while they were still out!

If you really want twice as many single-sided discs instead of 2-sided discs, there's something wrong with you.

I think there's something wrong with your comment. Get a life. Tell me why I should prefer 2-sided discs, why don't you enlighten me?

...better yet, don't bother, I don't care.

I agree. Space is getting to be a premium with TV box sets, so half as many discs is a good thing.

Why even bother asking the question if you're not interested in people's responses?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying you don't want to stand for 24 hours? Heck, you eventually have to stand to go to the bathroom or get something to eat or drink don't you?

HE Pennypacker 10-20-07 08:30 PM

I don't think it would be possible for me to watch that many episodes back-to-back. It's not a show like 24, Prison Break, or Lost that demand continuous viewing. I would definitely not double-dip in this particular situation. It is not worth it. I could donate that money or something.

Jah-Wren Ryel 10-20-07 08:41 PM

Unless the new sets were less than about $5, I would just format-shift either to computer hard disk for direct playback or burn my own single-sided discs.

Nope. As long as they aren't defective, I can live with double-sided discs.

Calm down man. :)

Greg MacGuffin 10-21-07 12:55 AM

You know, I don't think I've ever sat through an entire episode of Gilligan's Island.

Yet for some reason, I find this thread strangely compelling.

My question is this:

Do you use a catheter, or Depends, or pee in a jar while still sitting on the couch, or is your home theater actually in the bathroom, or what, exactly?

-confused-

If I ever feel I have a problem with getting up to turn a DVD over after 4 episodes or so, please kill me.

I mean, I understand the ability to put in an entire season in one player at once and being able to watch them all in order, but I would not double dip for it for that reason alone. That, to me, is the paramount of laziness in DVD.

JimRochester 10-21-07 04:57 PM

I watch TV episodes when I don't have time for a movie. I didn't buy the double sided disc but it wouldn't bother me to have them

Rob

same, but i feel the pain of having flip discs

kaze0 10-22-07 06:39 AM

Put me down for hating double sided tv show discs. I keep all my tv on dvd discs in a changer and it's annoying to have to get up, ejeect the disc, flip it over, put it back in, then keep track of which side is being played. And then theres generally no indication on the disc menus themselves of what side is in. It's an noying

Alan Smithee 10-23-07 06:06 AM

"It's an noying"? I take it noyings are not good? ;)

Re: if they re-released "Gilligan's Island" as a single-sided disc, would you double-

I just bought and watched season 1. Everything plays fine, except there's some freezing and pixelation in one episode, but only during the opening credits. Since the opening credits are identical for all of the episodes, I'm not really missing any unique content, so I don't intend to exchange it.
