Yeah, I know. That's excellent advice.

Too bad my brain doesn't get it - I have OCD, for which I'm in therapy and on medication - and this particular incident has given the OCD part of my brain something to fixate on. But the real problem there is really in my head. In a few days, my brain will probably find some other insignificant thing to obsess over.

Hell yes I would. I get tired of flipping them over! One of my favorite shows besides The Munsters which I re-purchased when they released the CS on one sided discs-

Actually I sold off my A-Team sets (I only had 3) to get the complete set. One reason is that they were double-sided.

But if I owned the complete Gilligan's set and they re-released it, I guess I wouldn't. GI is not that much of a "must-have" for me.

Re: if they re-released "Gilligan's Island" as a single-sided disc, would you double-

My OCD-ness is more bothered when multiple-disc sets DON'T use both sides- it's more of a pain to put a disc back in the case and get the next one out than it is to flip it over!

Bought Gilligan's Island Season 1 cheap at Wal-Mart a while ago, now can't find the other 2 cheap by themselves. Target had a set of both 1 and 2 together for a while, but I didn't want to buy another copy of season 1.

I would double dip for the first season in color... even though it looks terrible compared to current colorization...

Re: if they re-released "Gilligan's Island" as a single-sided disc, would you double-

I've doubled-dipped about (I estimate) 200 times in ten years but I've never done it solely because:
1-colorization
2-double sided discs
3-slim line cases
Even my OCD has a built in logic that would use that money to obtain something I don't own

I would've skipped the Brady Bunch complete series if it had been double sided. They put the Munsters on single sided ?

I would probably not single dip for Gilligan's Island but I hate flipper discs (Space: Above & Beyond). I would have to think long and hard about whether or not I wanted to replace a flipper with a single-sided disc. -kd5-

I'd probably only upgrade if it's released on Blu-ray. Not complaining about the dual-sided discs.

I own season one and wouldn't double dip for it nor single dip for seasons two or three.

After Gilligan killed the skipper in that knife fight at the end of season one I just couldn't go back to the island.

You can't do it with single sided discs either because then you have to swap the discs out.

They should put it out on blu-ray instead of doing this double dip on DVD.

As much as I prefer single-sided discs over double-sided; I still wouldn't double dip solely for that reason...

Not with a five disc carousel player you don't!

Nope... not just to replace a DS with a SS disk set. If they ever went bad... maybe.

What a huge step backwards.

Why ? Double sided discs are never any good.

Re: if they re-released "Gilligan's Island" as a single-sided disc, would you double-

"Never any good"? I know ones from Technicolor, which many Universal titles were put out on, had a high defect rate a few years ago (and I should know as I went through THREE bad copies of "Casino"), but that's no reason to dismiss ALL 2-sided discs as bad. I've got a bunch that play perfectly, including the first Gilligan's Island set (now I'm going to have to grab the other 2 while they're still out there.) My one complaint about that set and most recent Warner discs is that they're now printing the label only on side 1 with no printing at all on side 2 (they usually say something like "reverse side additional content") - there's been enough complaints about the lack of printing as it was, putting print only on one side is just nuts. They SHOULD be using the entire center of the disc for labeling, like a small record or laserdisc label.

1-sided discs for this means we now have 2 times as many discs as before, which is an issue when you have limited shelving, plus I've always liked how much content can really fit on a DVD and this ruins that (of course I've gotten some sets where each disc is 1-sided and single-layer, so they're just bloating it to make it look like more.) Some sets also use those godawful overlapping-disc cases to hold 2 discs in less space. And for marathon watching, I much prefer to get up and flip a disc than have to take it out, put it back in the case, get the next one out and put that in.

(And I just remembered that Warner has started using Technicolor to manufacture their discs- coincidence? Guess I should be glad they didn't switch them to single-sided, single layer DVD-Rs instead!)

Single sided DVDs.

I recently bought this and everything plays fine. (That's not me in the video.)

Not even any pretty "full-color disc art" on those- what a step backwards. Glad I got the 2-sided ones while they were still out there.

(And as I mentioned in other threads, I'm currently watching the 1-sided Tales From The Crypt discs and weeding out at least 3 of those that don't play properly. The labeling on those was pretty cool, but if I have to replace those the new ones also have plain labels instead.)

Even though I originally said "Nope!" I picked up the SS set from BB a couple of years back. It was on sale and I had a coupon. I think I paid ~$11 for the set, which is well worth it. It takes up about the same amount of shelf space and I like the SS discs with proper cases (no crappy digipak!!). I couldn't care less about "plain" disc art as I only look at that briefly while moving the disc from the case to the player.
