Definately The Ice Storm, they had an Ang Lee posting on their blog

They would have my money right now if it was The Ice Storm.

^ Agreed - this is great news.
|
This would be great news.
I love the fact that Criterion has started releasing more American/English films that aren't exactly classics (like This Sporting Life, Days of Heaven, The Naked Wild, or the Ice Storm -?-) but are masterpieces that are perhaps even better. |
If it's the Ice Storm then this is some of the best news Ive heard in years from Criterion. I like Variety and older films as well but i do hope we see some more recent films from the 90's and 2000's from Criterion. I would do anything for Criterion to do an Ultimate edition of Perfume: The Story of A Murderer.
|
I have never seen Ice Storm, so I will pick it up...funds permitting.
|
Are we certain it's not a Criterion box set of "Ice Road Truckers"?
|
Meh. A solid film, but, IMHO, not worthy of the Criterion treatment/price tag.
|
I would say its the only watchable film by Ang Lee and that's not saying much.
|
Damn, I was really hoping this was going to be the confirmation of the long-rumored, much-wanted Criterion release of Maximum Overdrive. That death by projectile soda cans alone makes it worthy of release in the collection! But I guess not...

That would be great if it was Ice Storm. Long overdue for a special edition.

Isn't there a decent DVD of it out already?

so is it confirmed that it's The Ice Storm?

With the enormous number of wonderful, unreleased films and under-represented directors out there, it always irks me when Criterion goes to work on a film that has a perfectly serviceable DVD already available, and one that can routinely be purchased for under $5, to boot. :|
Incidentally, if this really is the Ice Storm, it further solidifies the Darjeeling Limited -- another film I suspect isn't necessarily something that needs to be in the collection, but will be added "just because." -- as a future Criterion, as both are Fox properties. |
If Criterion is going to release under-the-radar Hollywood movies from the 90s, I'd love for them to release Quiz Show because the current DVD is meh and the film really deserves a wider audience, plus it has what I think is John Turturro's finest performance. I think a docu on Charles Van Doren and the quiz show scandals would be appropriate.
And I don't see how anyone can dismiss Eat Drink Man Woman as unwatchable. |

Great for Huston; I wish that Criterion would get The Dead. And maybe some India cinema. Sholay and the Apu Trilogy are crying for better releases. |
