This was one of my favorite movies when Iwas younger. I have the snapper one, but I'm definately picking this one up.

Rammsteinfan 01-08-08 06:50 PM

The back of the cover says REMASTERED MOVIE. Sucks there is no DTS this time around. Still gonna pick it up in May.

Edit: I missed the top of the back cover where it says an AWESOME REMASTERED VERSION...

Eh, good enough for me. At least nothing was dropped.

Confirmed for 5/6 (DVDActive shows 5/5, which I presume to be a misprint).

No, deleted scenes...I'll stick with the snapper.

Ill buy this just because its a guilty pleasure movie ( I even bought twister mason jar mugs at Universal Studios) but im bummed about no DTS track.

I cant wait to see the HD transfer!

This is the movie that was finally going to get me into HD DVD - well, Blu-Ray now.

With the format war all but decided, I wonder why anyone would buy the HD DVD version now. Warner has stated they are going to discontinue their HD DVD line at the end of May, which is why Twister will still receive a dual format release. But knowing that Blu-ray is probably it now, I wouldn't go near HD DVD.

I would get the HD DVD. It's not like my A2 is going to vaporize or anything. Also, the HD DVD will likely sound better on my setup since the A2 converts the Dolby Digital Plus & True HD tracks into 1.5mbps DTS while my PS3 would just convert it to regular Dolby Digital.

What to do?

From what I've read a slightly to moderately better transfer and a few more bonus features. But losing the deleted scenes and one of the best DTS tracks I've heard.

I can't possibly make this decision based soley on the snapper case.

Anyone else have trouble deciding whether to give up the DTS for the new edition?

Bluelitespecial 05-04-08 09:11 PM

I never bought twister on dvd, I only owned the vhs. I have the blu-ray for $20.99 at my kmart so I will pick it up.

Loss of DTS is a big crutch

But my hate for snapper cases surpases that, it's the only reason I don't own the movie yet, so I will still more than likely pick this up

Got the 2-disc today. PG13: Intense Depiction Of Very Bad Weather, is hilarious.

TheMovieman 05-05-08 09:54 AM

I made two screen comparisons between the old and new versions:

Giles 05-05-08 09:51 PM

wait, wait, wait... I must have been living under a rock... the prior DVD edition had both deleted scenes and DTS sound? okay, hmmm

Big Worms 05-05-08 10:15 PM

I can't wait to pick this up on Blu!

TheMovieman 05-05-08 10:21 PM

Which edition had the deleted scenes? I have the snapper case (copyright on it is 2000), no deleted scenes. It does have a DTS track, though.

I've been doing some online research for the past Special Edition and not one reviewer mentions deleted scenes.

TheMovieman 05-06-08 12:06 AM

I did a Google search but the top result was this thread...

Snowmaker 05-06-08 10:19 AM

I'll keep my DTS snapper. I don't even think I've ever once actually played the DVD since I got it, so no reason to rebuy..

The best ratings descriptor the MPAA has ever applied. There are a lot of runners up, but that is the winner. On the older DVD they changed it to Language, I'm glad the old one is back.

I think that was just a misprint on Warners part. I've noticed some versions of various Warner catalog titles with the wrong ratings and reasons listed. For examples, some copies of Deep Blue Sea claim to be rated PG-13 for language. When the film is R rated for gore, language and all that!

And I do know the original description was listed on early Twister dvds. It's just when Warner was repressing them. Someone goofed and various ratings and reasons got mixed up on wrong titles.

Another recently updated favorite is this: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...or=1#topoftabs

Apparently children under 13 should be prevented from seeing "science fiction".
