I'm in the same boat as everyone else...I'll go one step further and say since I never bought the Ultimate Collection, and since there's no way I was going to by the new, re-packaged (let's strip all the extras and just add new covers) box set, I'll wait for the inevitable (insert cheesy tag line here) set with all four movies.

well, you saw a completely different movie than I. this was hands down my 2nd fav after BU. i think everyone could have dialed it in, but really surprised me in its scope and action packed breath.

i would probably buy even if PG-13 version. this was a very good movie at any rating. of course if R-rated came out i would cream. and being released on my B-Day doesn;t hurt its chances on my picking up.

In all my years of dvd collecting, I've never heard of a studio releasing a PG-13 theatrical cut and an R-rated cut. But, maybe I'm wrong.

It probably will be the R-rated cut, but it will be called Unrated.

Nevermind, now I am confused....
My Boss' Daughter was PG-13 in the theater. When it was released on dvd, it came in PG-13 or R.

Loved Live Free. One of the most enjoyable big screen experiences of the summer. Definitely want the unrated cut, but I must admit, the movie as presented was so engaging, the lack of profanity and blood didn't even bother me.

This news is disappointing, but I'm not taking it as the final word just yet. Let's see what the official press release says. However, if we do end up with little more than a bare bones single-discer, I'll be passing for the third time this year and looking toward 2008 for the definitive collector's edition.

Or... might I be daydreaming that we could get a boxed set of all four? Eight discs, same extras for the first three, but newly remastered video. Especially for the third film, which reeks with edge enhancement. The original three are set for release on Blu-ray before the year is out, so why not take the mastering already done for those and downconvert?

I find it ironic (and amusing) that a thread complaining about a watered-down R-rated film is removing the same kind of language we're complaining about a lack of. That, and the violence.

Would it have been more acceptable to say Fox sucks on phalluses?

I found that funny myself. Maybe it's just me, but when did they start going in and editing the posts? I have never noticed this before.

Anyway, I'm not even sure I want to get this at all. I mean, I kinda liked it but it was a letdown in comparison to the others. If I do end up buying it, I'll wait for the R rated/Unrated cut.

What exactly is the problem here? We're getting the unrated cut with more extras than Fox has been doing recently for other initial releases. Sure, a little strange there's not a quad set and the cover art kinda sucks.... but I'm looking forward to it.

^ Who said we were getting the unrated cut? That hasn't been confirmed yet. And where are you seeing the cover art? All I see is the theatrical poster, which, in all honesty, will probably end up being the cover anyways.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed the theatrical cut but the cuts and edits made to ensure the PG-13 were painfully obvious. I'm getting the eventual Unrated edition or no sale.

The Blu-Rays are shown on Fox's site:

I'd definitely check out an un-rated cut, not too excited to see the PG-13 one again. It had good action, but as a Die Hard film goes, it disappointed me greatly.

Yes I saw the movie, I have never been more insulted in my life then when I saw LFODH, This could have been something different when it was in the theatres, a chance for John Mcclane to bring the hard R bloody violence and swearing that made the Die hard movies so famous and enjoyable. Instead we get no blood, people's backs covering the violence, and the worst editing and voice dubbing I ever heard in a movie to cover the original language. Like I said the only way this will EVER sit on my dvd shelf is if its the R-rated or unrated cut.

I really liked this movie so hopefully the unrated (aka the R-rated) cut comes out w/ the regular one. If not, I can wait. If they don't carry the features over (a la Saw) I'll just buy it from Hollywood Video or used on Amazon (by then it'll be around $7 shipped).

I’ll pick up the ‘Bare-Bones’ edition because I haven’t seen it yet & I’ll most likely end up double dipping in order too see the Un-rated/R-rated cut. If the Un-rated/R-rated cut ends up coming out the same day I’ll naturally be picking up that one instead of the rated, ‘Bare-Bones’.

DVDEmpire has three* releases up for pre-order:
*(actually, four, including the Blu-Ray release)

PG-13 version (fullscreen only)

Unrated version

Unrated 2-disc Collector's Edition

They currently have the 2-disc set priced lower than
the two single-disc releases, at $17.49, or 50% off SRP.

Admittedly, I would have enjoyed seeing the movie with all the blood and cursing in theaters... I mean come on it's Die Hard!

That being said a movie doesn't need to be R rated to be enjoyable, not by any means... But I will admit again to being a bit rating prejudice (who isn't sick of tame PG-13 horror movies that rely on watered down atmosphere and cliche scares instead of plot? Bright light! Loud noise! If you wanna go for the gusto, just go for it!) Anyways that's not entirely my point I guess...

... am I the only one that found some of the cuts and dubs in Live Free to be distracting? If memory serves me right the scenes with Justin Long in the car near the being and the one when they get out of the van at the end had some clumsy edits to the point my friend and I chuckled (obvious f-bombs removed). It took me out of those scenes, it really did.

Plus they shoot up people against a white car and there is not a trace of gore! Come on! I thought the whole reason to shoot a guy up against something white was to see that smear of crimson as the body squeaks limp to the ground!

So, I am reserving my actual judgment of this film for when I can see the Unrated/R-rated - or whatever version that the film was edited down from - cut. It had it's moments, but I am so sour about a few rotten scenes.

That being said. Yeah, I'll bite on the 2 discer.

I'll be getting that 2-disc set. Glad to see they're including the DTS track (based on Empire's specs) like the others...
