Wrong! Pay Per View didn't stop VHS rental or DVD. Streaming/downloading movies is just as unappealing and will not end packaged media. Heck, I can't even stand to download a few minutes of porn let alone a movie and watch it from my desk! Furthermore, don't get me started on the quality of downloads.

I would agree if we were talking watching it on a 19 inch monitor desktop computer but we are talking 42 inch hd lcd on wall here and remember FIOS will help speed the download.plus payperview costs money this is all free. big difference.

There is no way a majority of Americans will ever own a 42 inch, flat panel TV. Furthermore, HD signals that are sent via satellite and cable are compressed and do not provide the resolution of an HD disc or even regular HD broadcast antennas. So forget downloading movies, it just isn't going to happen on any scale that will eliminate packaged media.

I stand in the middle on downloadable content - I believe it will become more popular as internet access and speeds increase, and it gets easier to use. Since computers and the internet are concepts that are still hard for people to grasp, atm it's a long ways off. But I don't believe it will ever replace physical media - probably not in my lifetime anyway. I know I much prefer a disc to a download - I am, after all, a consumer whore, and I love seeing all those pretty spines on my shelf :D
For downloadable media to take off, it needs to be unrestricted, DRM-FREE, easy to use, and much cheaper than physical media. I don't have faith that any current business can get these three things right, so, I won't be holding my breath.

And yes, I know current phyical media (on movies anyway) has DRM and protection of sorts, but it's always easily cracked and it just leaves legitimate consumers with more trouble for their hard earned money.
