gotcha. I just thought it would be assumed that it would be a 5.1 pcm track as pretty much all of them for BD are nowadays that offer pcm. Will sound MUCH better than the non-lossless DTS track of the previous SB disc. |
They should have made the fonts in blood and hired an artist to do a drawing for the cover instead of this photoshop cut & paste cover.
|
being rumored now that it WILL be the extended version by an insider at AVS
|
Wow! Released on 10/2, and my birthday is 10/6. Hmmm, sounds like a pattern forming.
|
As I stated before, I like the cover but believe it or not, I'm actually buying it for the movie.
|
I also kind of like the cover, though I like the old one better.
But covers aside, this is one of my favorite movies and I'll buy it no matter what the packaging looks like. |
FYI: You can pre-order this from ch.com for $9.98 shipped. (Same price for the upcoming Taxi Driver LE as well). You have to pay $10 to become a member, but you get 2 free DVDs instantly when you pay that membership fee. The free titles you can choose from is limited to about 100 titles, but I chose Bringing Up Baby 2-disc and Shawshank 2-disc, so it was worth it to me. After that, it's always free shipping and always 40-60% off MSRP for everything on the site. I think you have to buy 2 titles in 3 months and your commitment is filled for life. But this pre-order would count for one of them right away. There are good deals to be had. Monster Squad is $11.99 for instance.

That cover is...bizarre. It's strange that the art would feature a suit of armor that's only shown in the film for all of 20 seconds, and the villain holding his hands in front of his face. If I had never seen this movie before, and picked this up at a store, I wouldn't have any idea what those two people were. It's just...odd.
|
^ I don't mind the cover so much, I just think it's weird. Everyone is used to the poster art and that cool font for this movie. I'm sure many casual buyers will have no idea this is the version of "Dracula" with Gary Oldman. The font used here is the only thing that I think is bad about the cover though.

I think the cover's sexy.

And for my two cents: isn't his armor actually red in the film? |
Yes it is red.
I like the cover, actually. :) |
According to DVDActive, the detailed specs for the R2 release are as follows (and I'm guessing that this will be pretty much the same thing we get in R1):
Disc One * 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer * Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio * Film Introduction * Full-Length Director's Audio Commentary Disc Two * The Blood is the Life: The Making of Dracula * The Costumes are the Sets: The Design of Eiko Ishioka * In-Camera: The Naïve Visual Effects of Dracula * Method and Madness: Visualizing Dracula * Over Thirty Minutes of Deleted Scenes * Trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's new theatrical film Youth Without Youth |
Over Thirty Minutes of Deleted Scenes |
Can't wait for this, any word is there are any plans on re-releasing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein? I'm pretty sure the only available dvd of that is a barebones, fullscreen version.
|
I believe at one point a widescreen version was available, but was non-anamorphic.
|
I'm debating between picking up the SD on release day or waiting till after the holidays to get the Blu-Ray version (I'm buy myself a PS3 durring the holiday sales as my xmas gift to myself)...

The one I have is both wide and full with just the trailer. |
I still love the cover and can't wait for this disc!

Has the definative list of extras for the R1 release been announced?
Yavin, thanks for posting the R2 stuff that we might get. |

I have to get this. I do have the superbit version already, but this is one of those movies where it might be okay to have both versions. I don't do that alot, have two versions of the same movie on hand I usually trade the older version in. But in this case with this movie which is one of my top 5 I just can't ignore the new dvd comming out in Oct. It looks like it has good special features too, some that I would actually watch. If you collect dvd's like I do, I just can't ignore this one.
