DVD's with EX or ES. No more??

So i guess the question is, will they be encoding DVD's with 6.1 anymore?

I'm asking cause it seems that most DVD's i have been buying, mostly action and scary ones, don't have EX or ES anymore.

One example is "300" coming out at the end of the month.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Well New Line still does some of their major DVD releases in Dolby EX 5.1/DTS ES 6.1.

Most Pixar movies come out with EX sound (though I don't remember Cars having EX encoding)

Cars is in Dolby EX. I use it for demo material.

A big chunk of the people that care about that sort of thing are going to go hidef, so yes, I would guess they will not fool with it on many DVD releases. They will save the special audio and video for HD releases. DTS tracks also seem to be getting a little more rare as well.

Yeah, fewer and fewer new dvds have dts now a days. But regular 5.1 has improved so much that it's not a huge loss (that, and fewer 2-disc sets means needing more room for extras on one disc, so that squeezes out the DTS, which can be a space-hog).

Actually, even if ES/EX is not labeled, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not there. In the case of Dolby Digital EX, if the theatrical version was EX enhanced, then the Dolby Digital on the disc still contains the EX flag--even if only '5.1' is denoted on the case.

Pan's Labyrinth had 5.1 EX/DTS ES tracks.

Thanks for the replys.

Then it must be the ones i'm buying that don't seem to have EX or ES.

I'm not ready for HD or BR yet so i'll have to live with 5.1 :)
