From dvdactive.com

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a Resident Evil double feature collector's set which includes both Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Extras will include a Bridge scene narrated by Milla Jovovich in character and featuring film clips from all Resident Evil films that tie the first two films to the third, a Diary of an Apocalypse behind the scenes featurette, a Diary of an Apocalypse behind the scenes featurette, a Zombie Dog P.O.V Test, a Stuntman set tour, an Undead Boot Camp feature, a Memory Retention Division feature, and an Evil Archives photo gallery. Finishing off the set will be an exclusive sneak peek of Resident Evil: Extinction, and a ticket to see the film when it arrives in theaters. You'll be able to own this one from the 4th September for around $19.94. Stay tuned for the artwork.

what the hell no extended cut of Resident Evil: Apocalypse??

miz.eerie 06-25-07 12:50 PM

i dont see the need to double dip on these. The films are cool but not that cool

Geofferson 06-25-07 01:01 PM

I enjoyed the first, but not the second. An alternate cut of part 2, combined with the ticket to part 3 may have swayed me to pick this up...

islandclaws 06-25-07 01:03 PM

"Film clips from the first two movies that tie it to the third"? Do they assume I'm so retarded that after watching the first two movies I would need a featurette to show me how they all connect? The scripts for these movies were about as deep as a kiddie pool. I'm pretty sure following along isn't a big problem for most people.

Yavin 06-25-07 01:03 PM

I liked the first one, the second one was alright. If Extinction exceeds my expectations I might consider the inevitable trilogy boxset when it comes out. Until then, I see no reason to pick up a two-pack of the first two movies.

Agreed, though I found the 2nd movie to be "entertaining"...

Same here.

uncle-frank 06-25-07 02:07 PM

i tried to give them both a chance, i hated them both, tho number 1 was alot better than 2 i wont be picking this up, but rather the wii edition of resident evil 4.

starseed1981 06-25-07 02:31 PM

I'll wait for the eventual trilogy blu-ray or HD boxset.

Wildo1966 06-25-07 06:54 PM

Me love double features long time.....

Yavin 06-29-07 09:20 AM

They're calling this the "Resurrected Edition" ... blecht

Groucho 06-29-07 09:26 AM

If you're going to do a collector's set, why not wait until you've got all three movies out?

eiker_ir 06-29-07 09:55 AM

i'll wait for the inevitable trilogy release if the third one is good

I'm sure they'll do that too, but I think we should all buy this one anyway. Why?

Because for $14.99 at BB, you get the double pack, a third exclusive bonus DVD, the free movie ticket, and $5 concession cash.

Seems like a no-brainer if you plan to see the movie. Even if you give away the 3 DVDs, you're still saving 50 cents pretty much.

Big Worms 09-04-07 11:22 PM

Saw the packaging at BB this morning. You can easily skip this one and wait for hopefully a very nice trilogy box set. This is just a standard dvd case that holds 2 disc with a slipcover.

DVD Polizei 09-05-07 12:26 AM

I bought the Spawn Steelbook instead. :D

Waiting for the 6-disc director's cuts of all three films in steelbook. SD DVD and HD DVD preferably (as well as Blu-ray).

Funny...me too.

But it is essentially free ($14.99 price and $15.50 in movie/concession cash).

Also, I would guess that at least the 3rd bonus disc won't be carried over into the eventual triple drip.

I'll likely give the main DVDs away as gift or ebay them.

I see no reason to not buy this set. I picked up two copies actually.

SPIDERone 09-05-07 06:50 AM

A couple notes on the set:

The slipcover looks to be printed on a reflective material and will easily flake/rub off leaving behind just the reflective surface.

Disc 1 contains both movies (01:40:33 and 01:33:49 - English 5.1 and French 5.1 available on both) plus a scene from Resident Evil 3 (2:07).

Disc 2 has the special features. Runtime is about 52 minutes but also has a trivia-game and photo gallery. Previews are included for RE: Umbrella Chronicles (Game). RE: Extinction, Hostel: Part II, Vacancy, Ray Harryhausen in Color, Bobby Z, Contractor, Wind Chill.

Disc 3 has 2 features: Making of Resident Evil (27:20) and Resident Evil Extinction: Sneak Peak (3:35)

LiquidSky 09-05-07 07:12 AM

I purchased this yesterday.

Thanks Spiderone, great post!

At some point, I imagine that one of us will pull out the old releases and do a total comparison of both the features and all the special features.

There are definitely things brand new to this release, and definitely things not carried over from the old releases.

SPIDERone 09-05-07 03:50 PM

^ I'm glad that they did decide to go for mostly new features (and ones of such a lengthy (almost an hour and a half worth)). It's also nice that they separated them onto its own disc so that you can give away the movies if you choose (especially those concerned about AV quality).

The inclusion of the movie cash makes it a no-brainer for those planning to see it in theaters!

Hi. I was curious about the two covers I've seen.. One with Jovovich holding two guns and the one where she's wrapped in a towel.. Was the later one used somewhere in the packaging? Or a pre-release cover they changed before it went into production?

Anyone know's what's up with the Sept 18th release in Canada? I'm hoping the Bestbuy one will have the bonus dvd, or I'll need to make a trip to get it.. Is there $14.99 price only for the first week release?
Thanks

I think blue'ish cover with the towel is the release from a few years ago (possibly the same day RE:Apocalypse was released) that just packaged RE and RE2 inside of a box. The one with her holding the guns is the new release.

Abe. 09-08-07 08:58 PM

Exactly, the blue-ish cover was used for the two-pack released during Apocalypse. It's actually a very nice box cover.

Matthew Ackerly 09-08-07 09:19 PM

I'm gonna wait until the third one hits dvd and the inevitable trilogy boxset is released.

uncle-frank 09-09-07 10:38 AM

no point in even buying them at all, 1st one was passible but not that great, 2nd one sucked hard.

unless your a big resident evil fan id pass

OK, so the features on disk 2 are new features (not on the previous releases of Resident Evil DVD's)?
Also, the making of on the 3rd disk, is that a new feature as well?
Is their alot of Milla in these features.
Sorry but I already have bought the SE of Resident Evil (Which I sold) the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil and the 2-Disk SE of Res. Evil 2 and I would only want this if their is more Milla in new features...

Trevor 09-13-07 09:17 AM

Some of the feayures on disc two are new. The third bonus disc at BB is all new.

I have not watched them so no idea if there is a lot of Milla.

But again, it costs $14.99 and you get $15.50 in movie cash. If you are a RE fan you must be planning to see the third movie, so buying this set is a total no brainer. Even if you throw the DVDs away you make money.

njwiv 09-13-07 10:04 AM

The Making of Resident Evil on Disc 3 is from 2002 (per the end credits); I therefore suspect that it is the Making Of featurette from the original Special Edition that was left off of the Deluxe Edition.
