Commentaries with actors in character..
I just finished watching the Reno 911!: Miami DVD with two commentaries by the actors in character as the deputies. I found them very enjoyable. They reminded me of two other commentaries with actors in character (This is Spinal Tap & Bubbo-ho-tep), both of which I also enjoyed.
My question is...What other DVDs, if any, have commentaries with actors in character? Thanks |
Isn't Jason Mewes basically being himself as Jay? Especially on the Mallrats commentary.
|
IIRC the one on Bubba Ho Tep is done this way.
|
I'm Alan Partridge: Series 1
Snide and Prejudice Fubar: The Movie Ali G Indahouse: The Movie The Ali G one is especially hilarious. |
The Comeback has Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish in a commentary for an episode.
Greg the Bunny has the puppets for a commentary for an episode. |
Space Jam
Powerpuff Girls Movie (Select scenes only) |
Bubba HO-TEP commentary is accually Bruce campbell doing it as if he were the real elvis (the real elvis as in the real elvis in real life, not the real elvis in the movie) in an undisclosed location, watching the movie bubba ho-tep which he has never seen befor staring some guy with a big chin, named bruce campbell playing him (elvis) and a small role as an elvis impersonater

"Mr. Show" has some of this. At times, the commentators play different characters (not characters from the show IIRC though).
Does the Mickey Mouse commentary on "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Fantasia count? |
I remembered some more. The Brak Show: Volume 1 has commentary with Brak. I believe The Convent (2000, Lion's Gate) has two characters doing one of the commentaries. Brother Bear has in-character commentary from Rutt & Tuke. And Eight Crazy Nights has a commentary where Sandler appears as some of the characters.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned this Spinal tap yet, and ther is at least one track on the freaks and geeks dvd with the actors in character.

Theatrical version of Talladega Nights has a 30 years later commentary
|
Incident at Loch Ness. Zak Penn and Werner Herzog play themselves in the film and stay in character during the commentary. There is a hidden commentary if I remember where they actually talk about the film.
|
I haven't seen it yet, but Notorious C.H.O. has Margaret Cho commenting as her mother.
|
There's at least one of the Ren & Stimpy Show eps with commentary by John K as Ren and that other guy who isn't Billy West as Stimpy.
|
Family Guy (some/part of commentaries)
Space Ghost C2C (at least 1) King of the Hill (some commentaries) Shaun of the Dead R2 (read it has commentaries by the zombies, not sure if that means in character or not, unconfirmed) Muppets from Space (read it has commentaries with Kermit, Gonzo, and Rizzo, unconfirmed) Special Note: Blood Simple has a commentary by a fictional film historian and critic, Kenneth Loring. Edit: I KNEW there was already a thread on this: Commentaries done "in character" ? |
Even though it sucked August Underground has a commentary with the "killer".

I've always hoped they'd release a SouthPark the Movie SE with incharacter commentary.
|
Garth Merenghi's Darkplace has commentary in Character on all the episodes and it's amazing.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-oooooooooooooohhhhhhhh! (gun shot) [splat!] no in all seriousness the commentary track is quite fun to listen to, sad to see it relagated only to the R2 disc. |

I think Freaks & Geeks has an episode or two with the actors playing their roles. Mr. Rosso is one, I think.

This many posts and no one has mentioned Bubba Ho-Tep or Spinal tap yet? Jeez, I would have mentioned them in the first post.

I'm not sure if it counts but Galaxy Quest has an entire full length commentary done in the screeching alien language.
I haven't read the thread yet but I'm sure I'm the first one to mention that Buba Ho Tep has a commentary done by the "real" Elvis. Some of you should check it out. I think Spinal Tap may have one too. |
Hey, did anyone mention Bubba Ho-Tep or Spinal Tap yet?
Oh, and in case you were wondering I was being sarcastic. |
This turned up on a google search:
Brother Bear A little unclear if it constitutes "in-character" or not. |
This seems like as good a place as any to ask... for anyone that has the original Criterion Spinal Tap disc, how is the non-character commentary track? Is it worth dropping the big eBay bucks?
Also, this probably deserves an asterisk, since they were actually real hockey players instead of actors, but does the Hanson Brothers commentary track on the Slap Shot SE count as part of this thread? |

That show was amazingly funny. The episode where they are chasing after the caveman on the BMX and Grifters is great. I also liked Man to Man with Dean Learner and the first episode of that with Garth Merenghi was the best. |
