Question about Alien Quadrilogy

I just bought the Alien Quadrilogy and it states the theatrical version is 117 mins while the directors cut is 116 mins. Is this correct ?

I wouldn't call it a sham. Ridley explains it in a more fair fashion in the DVD booklet.

i also have a question about the Alien movies.

i wish to buy only Alien and Aliens. i'm going to get this version of Aliens:

but i can't tell what the difference is between these two versions of Alien:
http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewprod...uctId=11431553
http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewprod...ductId=5745044

they're the same price... i'm leaning toward the 117-minute one, though.

both of those versions of alien are the same. the first one has a lenticular cover and the second is just a gold slipcase. i'd go for the lenticular cover.

^i'm not sure about that, riotinmyskull, i just had the presence of mind to type the UPCs into DVDSpot's website, and DVDSpot leads me to believe that the one with the gold slipcase is the 20th anniversary, which i believe is not only OOP but also the 116-min DC.

in any case, i don't see a downside to going with the lenticular one, like you said.
animorphic widescreen Alien + anamorphic wide screen Aliens = 16 bucks = i'm happy

Ridley Scott has stated that the original theatrical cut is still his true director's cut, and as a long time fan of the film, I believe it is the better version.

I just bought the Alien Q' and only watched the director's cut. Not having seen the original in man years I didn't notice any diferences. What is the diference between the two?

....and arent "Director's Cuts" usually longer than theatrical cuts?
The Theatrical is 1 minute longer.

The only difference I could remember in the re-release is that we find out what happened to
Spoiler:
Tom Skerritt

there are a few director's cuts that were shorter than the theatrical release. i forget the movie but i have a DVD where the director actually shortened the movie for a few minutes after re-editing it to his vision.

i really like the extended cut of 'Aliens' where is shows the robotic guns... and the infection of newt's parents... etc... i thought those scenes contributed to the story greatly...

in Alien, the scenes cut by Ridley to 'never show the shape of the alien seemed excessive... and the editing of the 'what happened to them' scene, that since someone treated carefully with 'spoiler' above, i will do the same and not mention it... that scene was a great flow into the second film for obvious reasons...

I think the Coen Brothers shortened Blood Simple by a few minutes for their Director's Cut DVD.
