Great titles! Already have them in the larger collection but they are so much fun.

darkside 06-12-07 05:18 PM

Already have them. Wish we could get new stuff.

I presume that these are simply reissues of the double features that were released way back in 2001. Great for those who missed out though...

mrpeavey 06-12-07 07:41 PM

I'm making the same assumption as well - re-release of the old double features. It's the exact same art.

The Universal Monster films are some of my all-time favorites, but the Legacy Collections, I think, are the way to go on these. Really cool packaging and you get the touchstone films in addition to these sequels.

I'd like to see Universal release a 75th Anniversary Edition of The Mummy [I started a thread about this a week or so ago]. I'd also like to see them return to their Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi Collections for some bonus features. The all-time Universal classic The Black Cat is just begging for a commentary track and documentary.

The one advantage of buying these is no dual sided, dual layered discs. Those have been problematic for many buyers. They can put the double features on a single DVD9.

I still have the earlier versions. Unless they've re-authored them: you are prompted to choose which movie to watch, once you choose one, you can't get to the second feature without first ejecting the disc and starting over.

Mr. Cinema 06-12-07 09:41 PM

$10 is a much better price for these than when they were first released.

I see the first films in each series are being rereleased as well. But wouldn't that mean Frankenstein for example has the bad audio mix that is heavily filtered of 'noise'? If so,I wouldn't bother buying them and get the Legacy releases(either the full series sets,or stand alone SE releases).

cranberries fan 06-12-07 10:10 PM

Yes I need just this one-Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man / House of Frankenstein.

DVDEmpire has the listings for the reissues of the single films.

Bride of Frankenstein

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Dracula

Frankenstein

The Invisible Man

The Mummy

The Wolf Man

These are all released the same day as Monster Squad. Coincidence?

What's the difference between the Legacy releases and the 75th anniversary releases? I know the Legacy sets have all the extra movies, but is that the only difference? I've actually never really seen any of these, but I'm interested in checking out at least some of the big ones. I'm just not sure what DVDs I should go with.

Damed 06-13-07 12:32 AM

I really wish they'd release "House of Dracula" on stand alone DVD. Its the only film that is ONLY available in the multi-movie set.

The only Dracula one. Both Invisible Man and Creature sequels are only available in the sets also.

old-boo-radley 06-13-07 05:37 PM

Yeah, instead of third rehashes, they should give us Phantasm II or hell even The Phantom of the Opera, which fewer people have than those movies.

TRC 06-13-07 06:20 PM

Can someone tell me if the Creature Legacy Collection uses dual sided discs?

Nope, I have it, and neither disc is dual sided.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Fincher Fan 06-13-07 10:12 PM

I'm not buying these titles a fourth time! I'll hold out hope for future Legacy sets.

Exactly.

old-boo-radley 06-14-07 03:28 AM

I, personally couldn't possibly hold out. The Legacy sets are such a good price and you got so much value in them, I bought them all except The Invisible Man because I don't know if I'd dig those ones.

DarthPrime 07-26-07 07:08 PM

Any stores stocking these new releases?

cranberries fan 07-26-07 11:57 PM

I have not seen these DvD's in any stores yet DarthPrime.
