Got this idea from another forum and its pretty cool. Searched and couldn't find a thread like it.

You have some good titles in your collection that I like. Alot I have never seen. Id give it a  , B

Quack 06-09-07 10:30 AM

I would have to say A-! Got all the fun cheesy greats that I enjoy, specifically all the Tremors films!

Greg MacGuffin 06-09-07 11:18 AM

Quack - small but solid collection. Your tastes run to the mainstream (not a bad thing), but it would be cool to see you branch into other time periods and different countries. I'll give you a B.

Here's my collection:

Geminix 06-09-07 11:42 AM

Jeffy Pop - Since your collection seems almost like just a subset of mine, I have no choice but to rate yours an A!

islandclaws 06-09-07 12:50 PM

Geminix - Great stuff, man. Lots of titles I myself own. Gotta give you an A.

Cosmic Bus 06-09-07 12:58 PM

KillerCannabis: That's a staggeringly large collection, and it covers about every genre and era imaginable. There's stuff I don't personally care for, too, but looking through things and reading the reviews you post, you definitely have a passion about these movies! Certainly an A.

I haven't decided what to do about my listing online yet, but the one at DVDAf is still current... http://hotarubi.dvdaf.com/owned

OldBoy 06-09-07 04:50 PM

cosmic,
hard to view your collection, but not bad. nice Crits.
rating= B

NoirFan 06-09-07 05:15 PM

Scott, a nice collection, although you need some more 40s/50s stuff. Genre titles are well represented. I'll give you a solid B.

chase3001 06-10-07 12:55 AM

NoirFan, cool collection. I like your assortment of noir films. I have been meaning to pick some of those up. Definite A.

zepplin 06-10-07 11:26 AM

Grade- A (just because of your awesome horror collection!)

EdTheRipper 06-10-07 12:12 PM

DarthVong...A.
Got a lot of good stuff there.

dvd_luver 06-10-07 01:57 PM

EdTheRipper, you have a mighty sweet and tasty DVD collection (yummy) there, with plenty to offer any movie/DVD aficianado, plenty of great DVD titles and movies, Grade A+ for a perfect and sound DVD collection.

As for mine, I have more DVD's than I have listed, like hundreds more.

DeputyDave 06-10-07 03:45 PM

You have a good little collection there. I understand you still have hundreds not listed but I can't rate "might be's".

First, what you have is GOOD. I only saw 4 that I wouldn't bother to own myself and maybe 2 movies I simply disliked. That's pretty incredible.

Secondly, where's the love for my favorite genre? Do you own any horror movies?

Third, you have by far the largest ratio of double dips to total number of DVDS I have ever seen. You may only love a select few movies but you really love them.

So do I rate it? Uh... size and lack of horror drops an A to a B collection.

EdTheRipper 06-10-07 05:17 PM

DeputyDave...good collection. Especially loving the inclusion of some of my favorites like Brain Donors and Three O'Clock High. A very solid A.

BuckNaked2k 06-10-07 06:32 PM

Dear Gawd, that is a library of film! P.S. - Love the Zuni Fetish Doll!

Nice mix:

Music
Classics
Classic John Woo
Classic Kurosawa as well Samurai in general
Classic anime
Some darker films ...
... and most importantly, you veered away from a lot of generic mainstream nonsense!!!
... oh yeah, and the fact that you own that Japanese Ultimate Terminator release bakes me :grumble: I've been wanting to get that for so long now .. but only at a reasonable price. Fuggettabout it.

I'll never grade another's collection as it's too personal, but based on what I can see .. excellently done!!

visitor q,

there's something eerily similar about a lot of our collections :)

PopcornTreeCt 06-10-07 10:25 PM

I would give this an A+ collection. You have tons of great classic films, lots of modern day ones that I love, and a whole ton of Criterions. Most surprising is that you don't own crap either. You're less than stellar films are still terrific as well.

theguyoverthere 06-11-07 10:49 AM

PopcornTreeCt

I would give this collection an A, if for no other reason to appreciate the fact that a collection heavy on Criterions need not be snobbish and exclude more popular and somewhat lower-brow films and TV series.

yachtsman 06-11-07 12:51 PM

PopcornTreeCt - I would give A

very impressive collections, it is great to see that many region free collections.

MrE 06-11-07 01:04 PM

After scanning several of these I think that it might be helpful to have a nutshell summary of the rationale behind the collection. For instance, what I might see as an omission might be a deliberate exclusion; and I like the logic of picking up items which are likely to be less available in the future. Hope that gives an idea of what I mean.

zepplin 06-12-07 06:07 PM

I fixed my collection listing. Correct one is in my signature

benjsimpson 06-12-07 06:53 PM

Nice collection zepplin....much more mainstream tastes than me...but I like the fact that there is the odd Icelandic comedy in there to give it some flavour! Jon Gnarr: Nord looks interesting...MRSP of $3299?

Also...nice combination of Queen, The Doors and Megadeth in your musical tastes :0)

zepplin 06-13-07 06:10 PM

OOP copy:O) Should be icelandic currency.

your collection is great by the way!

asianxcore 06-13-07 07:13 PM

benjsimpson, solid collection. we share a good number of the same titles

I like the mix of classics, music, odd-and-ends, with some mainstream movies thrown in for good measure.

Robert 06-13-07 08:47 PM

asianxcore - An interesting, eclectic mix of some strange and mainstream horror titles. But, whats up with 13 going on 30 and josie and the pussycats and why do you still own the old matrix sequel dvds when you have them on HD-DVD?

Now, someone rate my glorious collection!

BobSolo 06-13-07 08:56 PM

Robert. Nice collection. I would have let Dukes of Hazzards slide, but what's up with the Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning???????????????

Robert 06-13-07 09:10 PM

The first Dukes is a guilty pleasure and I bought The Beginning hoping it would have some decent chase scenes like the first one.

mike7162 06-14-07 03:07 AM

BobSolo -
Your collection is massive and quite impressive. I was hard put to find any choices I would disagree with (although I'm not much of a Disney fan - you know, Evil Empire and all); you seem to have excellent taste in the best that Hollywood has to offer. If I could make one change, I'd add some silent titles to your collection to round out it's comprehensive mix. Some Chaplin, or some German horror would fit in quite nicely. A solid "A", overall.

thomkai 06-14-07 08:42 AM

Okay, mike7162, I hope I can review your collection as I consider myself still quite the n00b round these parts...

Strolling through your list online, I couldn't help but notice there is a surprising lack of comedy movies. What you do have is mostly classic stuff, so perhaps you just don't like sillier and more mainstream comedy. I saw a lot of film noir, gothic horror, Western and Drama stuff. I suppose for the sake of balance you could also have more family films, but it seems you have been pretty purposeful in what you have and have certain tastes which you cover quite nicely. Unfortunately I am as I said a n00b so most of it I didn't recognize; I think that in and of itself gives you some points ;)

I'm giving you an B+ for having a large number of films from genres you obviously really enjoy, but I think some comedy would help to balance things a bit, if not some family (but I know from your post above how you feel about Disney, so let's just say comedy ;)). If anyone disagrees, perhaps they can step in with a more informed opinion (but I wanted to know what others thought of my collection so I thought I'd give this a shot.)

Oh and you're link is busted since Dvdaff changed their schema; had to figure out that it's http://mike7162.dvdaff.com/owned :)

As for mine, just thought I'd let the next poster down know that about 90 titles are my g/f's but we sort of consider it all "ours", but that explains some of it...

glasschicken 06-14-07 09:41 AM

thomkai - Nice collection. I really enjoyed the wide selection of anime and adult swim titles. Plus, I did not know Darkwing Duck was out. I'll have to hunt that down now. The only thing I was curious about was all the Veggie Tales discs. Kids?

Pointyskull 06-14-07 09:48 AM

Well, Glasschicken, you had me at your first title :)

It would seem we have similar tastes, with the exception of the anime/Samarai stuff or Ernest Saves Christmas, which does nothing for me personally.

Things like Dead Like Me, Carnivale and Wonderfalls tell me all I need to know about your appreciation of terrificly weird and underappreciated titles.

Overall I like the cut of your jib, my boy.

Actually, my girlfriends. Before we met she pretty much only bought Disney and Family stuff. I feel I've corrupted her in some ways. :P

AOD 06-17-07 09:03 PM

12monkey. You have a lot of movies I would, and have, bought myself. Black Snake Moan is on my list for HD. Nice collection.

AOD: Very nice collection. We seem to share quite a few of the same titles!
