Ichi The Killer: 2-disc "Blood Pack"??

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...yL._SS500_.jpg

This one seems to have just come out a few days ago - as neat as the packaging is, I hear it's actually more harm than good as it makes the discs near impossible to get out. I've looked around for reviews or even impressions from the set but can only find them in regards to the actual casing.

Has anybody here had a chance to view this set? I own the unrated version on DVD already so this would mean a double-dip. I'm fine with that if it's an improvement (or if this "Uncut" version is different from the "Unrated" version from TokyoShock a few years ago)

If it is the same version, is this a new transfer or the same disc just being repackaged with a 2nd disc of bonus material?

Please check this thread in the DVD Bargain Section (Well, the details were all discussed there)

Thanks for the link - I wasn't having any luck with the search feature.

Unfortunately that thread also mainly goes into the packaging and didn't give a final answer on whether or not it's a new transfer (or how it compares to the previous version). I seem to recall the previous dvd looking pretty bad. :(

Well, that's troubling.

I'm working my way through the set right now -- those blood bags are a pain in the ass -- and should have my review up in a day or two.

For anyone interested, ran into this at BB the other day:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....p=1&id=1330429

Looks to be the Blood Pack 2-Disc Edition, without the special packaging.

Amazon shows the cover as Blu Ray....I'm assuming you saw it as DVD which what the BB site shows. I'd like it a bit cheaper but...maybe I'll bite.

Is the Blu Ray any good? I may sell my blood pack for it.

Yup it was a 2-Disc DVD SE. It was in the Action/Adventure section of my local BB.

I hope the Blu-Ray release is good too.

any definitive word on how that transfer is compared to the 2003 version? i may upgrade because i really do enjoy that movie.
EDIT - nevermind!

"Six years ago Media Blasters released two versions of Ichi the Killer on DVD. One was a Rated R version and the other was an uncut version of the film. Now here we are six years later and Media Blasters revisits this title once again under the banner “Blood Pack”. First off this transfer unlike the previous one from Media Blasters has been flagged for progressive scan. The overall quality of the image looks slightly sharper and more colorful then the previous release with most of the improvements being so marginal that it depends on your home video set up if will notice just how good this new transfer is compared to all that have come before it.

This release comes with four audio options a Dolby Digital 5.1 and a stereo mix in Japanese and a Dolby Digital 5.1 and a stereo mix in English. All four audio mixes sound really good and are free of any distortion or any other sound defects. Overall the audio sounds just as good as it did on the previous Media Blasters release. Removable English subtitles that are free of any errors have been included." from http://10kbullets.com/reviews/i/ichi...er-blood-pack/

They seem to have rereleased it only to get rid of the blood pack and add a disc of trailers.

seems fine to me as long as I get all the features on the blood pack set.

Which is good. Though the packaging was cool, it was annoying as hell.

We need the Blu-Ray release already. *Apparently* 5 more days, assuming no other delays drop :)

I'm tempted to buy this just to keep the collection going... I have the Blood Pack, the Dutch disc, and the 3 disc UK version.

I have this dvd..
that phto of the case makes it look really nice but it gets scratched up and dirty really easily.. mine was just on the shelf sitting there and it looks messy afterwhile
I don't dare try to take the discs out tho.. tried it once affter bought and didn't bother with it again since I have single disc version of this movie too

I just watched this for the first time today, actually.

Any word on a similar R2 release?
