Army of Darkness- June Rerelease?
I was surfing Best Buy.com and noticed they had a DVD (not HD) listed as $24.99 to be released on June 26th. Can this be confirmed by anyone?
|
That is for the HD DVD. Universal released Army of Darkness last year as a HD DVD/DVD combo disc. They are re-releasing it in June as a HD DVD only disc.

I'm sure it is a mistake. I doubt Best Buy is charging $24.99 for a dvd re-release of that film.

Just randomly, do you mind my asking what the best version of the film is available on DVD? Amazon has a lot listed and it is safe to say I am VERY confused on what to get.

Thus if you still pursue the best (in R1 that is) then get the HD/DVD combo and play the DVD side of it. |
Anchor Bay lost the rights to the film and they went back to Universal. So far, they have no plans of a dvd re-release. Their current version from what I've read is not the best of quality. The HD DVD looks good for such a low budget film, but for dvd, at least in Region 1, I would say Anchor Bay's Boomstick Edition is the route to go. But it's also OOP, so you may have to pay a bit more for it. If you have a region free player, I think the Region 3 version probably offers the best pic quality of any of the dvd versions.

Oh how I love the R3 Director's Cut. It's so pretty.
|
Anchor Bay lost the rights? I hope they get them back. Not because I want to see a billion more releases but come on, they ARE going to complete the damn "book" trilogy aren't they?

If you want the best transfer of the film -- seriously -- the R1 HD-DVD combo is the way to go for SD.
However, the two-disc limited edition (or later re-released as the Boomstick Edition) for those who want the extras as all of those are owned by Anchor Bay. |
If it is a DVD release, technically wouldn't be a re-re-re-re-re-release?
|
Even after all the releases I was hoping for A Book of The Dead version for Amry of Darkness, they can use the R3 transfer. Maybe when you pull the hear it screams "I'll swallow your soul!"
|
HD-DVD SD side is the best transfer and the HD side is absolutely amazing.

If you're looking for the 'directors cut' version, there's really no acceptable transfer of that in Region 1. The R3 MGM edition is pretty darn tasty, though... |

is this one anamorphic, and, if not, are any of the R1 releases besides the HD combo anamorphic? |
