AN *automatic* double dip? No, not even for my all-time favorites. What it takes to make me dip is a substantial improvement in the movie itself -- the transfer goes from a C- to an A+, or there's a Director's Cut that adds 25% more footage that fans of the movie have wanted back for decades, or the original music score is restored, or something like that.

New extras aren't enough, because even the most well-made extras are, for me, usually watch-once material that I can rent.

There are a few movies I will probably dip on HD discs somewhere down the line, when the prices become reasonable and I have the hardware to take advantage, assuming the HD editions have superior transfers. But even they will be taken on a case-by-case basis.

I mostly don't double-dip. I'll buy something again if there's a big improvement in technology (I have music that's on both vinyl and CD) or a major restoration of an antique. I refuse to buy a new version of something I already have because some studio is jerking me around by rationing out the goods. Bite me.

I have never bought Star Wars.

Probably any title that I own, I like having the best version available. But if I had to pick just 1 movie? Casino.

anything Family Guy, hell anything Seth Mcfarlane. And im fighting to not hd-dip in smallville season 5, but it's a loosing battle.

I think about the only movie i would ever infinite-dip would be Silent Hill, I'm looking forward to the upcoming 2-disc set and am tryin to talk the wife into letting me import the 4 disc set from japan.

I general have not double dipped unless it was a new version of the movie that improved the theatrical cut, or the original release was 1) non-anamorphic or 2) a flipper.

Otherwise I haven't double dipped. I pretty much never watch extras. Barely time for movies/TV as is, so I don't waste the little I have on extras very often. As such, the usual double dips don't appeal to me.

Now when I take the HD jump I'll probably double dip some, but just on a few select favorites that are heavy on eye candy--LOTR, Star Wars etc.

I don't know if its automatic but i have all three releases of Re-Animator plus the SE Laserdisc. So if it added one special feature the others don't have i'd probably jump at it. Same thing with A Nightmare on Elm Street. Used to be that way with Halloween but i've held back on a few of those.

I'll also add that once I obtain the newest version, I immediately (if not before) sell the previous version. Out of my 750+ DVD's, none of them are dublicates.

and as soon as I own a PS3 or a blu-ray player the 5th Element will be my first purchase.

I will also have owned all three versions of the Lord of the Rings films.

And Nearly all Kevin Smith films I haved owned in at least two different forms.

I usually don't buy something if I know a better version will be out someday. I can wait most of the time. The exception is probably going to be Zodiac. Seems like the upcoming release is going to be pretty small-scale for a Fincher release. I'm sure something better will come later even though it's flippin' Paramount.

However, I will buy better versions of most movies I have if something better comes along. I feel pretty confident though most of the time I make a purchase. For instance, my last three DVD purchases are the 2-Disc LE of Final Countdown, 15-Year AE of The Doors, and the 2-disc SE of Field of Dreams. I've never owned previous versions of any of them.

Before Sunrise (I wish) and Infernal Affairs. Maybe 24.
