An even better reason to wait for the upcoming discs... the current transfer is lousy, one of the worst new transfers I've seen in a long while. There are so many jaggies, moire problems, shimmering, and jitter that it seems to me that something most have gone wrong in the transfer process. This isn't simply one or two brief blips, but consistently poor, perhaps even growing worse as the disc progresses (or maybe I was just becoming more and more aware of the seemingly endless artifacts).

I only picked it up since it was said that the theatrical version will only be available in this standard DVD release, so I'm treating it as an expensive "supplement" to the eventual HD release. Otherwise, I would gladly wait.

Yes, this is definitely a technical problem with the way the film was transferred to digital or encoded on the DVD. Stair-step jaggies, moire patterns, and shimmering have nothing to do with the 70s aesthetic that the film vaguely adheres to.
Good police procedural, and probably the best Fincher film I've seen. It deserves a much better transfer on DVD.

thoroughly enjoyed the movie last night and will pick up the Director's Cut when it gets released.
Never really noticed any of the "problems", but then again I never really do. One thing I did notice in some parts was it was hard to hear some of the things that were said due to the overlay of music been a little too loud.

I'm going to have to REALLY decide if 5 minutes more to the movie is going to be REALLY worth a double-dip on this one. I'm not one for commentaries - just deleted/extended scenes.

I love commentaries, though I do wish Fincher was on one with Gyllenhaal and Downey Jr.

Hopefully this one wont be as obscenely priced as the recent double dip of Babel. ALthough Zodiac looks to have much more extras than just that one feature length documentary on babel.

Wow. Only 5 more min, huh? I was expecting a little more than that. Thankfully I held off on the current release waiting for this, so at least I'm not having to double dip.

Finally saw this last night, great movie. Quite less stylized than Fincher's other movies which I rather liked, and amazing performances by Gyllenhall and Downey. Definitely deserved an Oscar nod for Best Pic over Atonement I think.
