i wish hddvds got cool exclusives and fancy packaging :(

Vendetta-AKK 06-18-07 11:08 AM

The Korean LE will be a steelbook as well. So that is an option for those of us that do not live in Canada and therefore do not have access to FutureShop releases.

I wish FutureShop would ship to the US, there is always stuff I want from there. They have to lose alot of business with that whole no shipping to the US policy.

I think FutureShop does not ship to the US because it so tough for them to track the package. The same is true for us here shipping to Canada. It is very expensive to ship there because I want some kind of proof that the item was delivered, as many people know Paypal is loaded with loopholes for scam artists. The USPS really sucks these days...

You know it is funny to hear you say this because I have been having more of a problem with them myself lately. I find it kind of funny that this is coming on the heals of them just recently raising their rates quite a bit. So apparently more money equals less work and accuracy.

Yes absolutely, I have noticed alot of differences lately. Not only are prices ridiculous to ship outside the country (the USPS no longer offers surface mail delivery), but they have made things easier for people to scam others on auctions sites. Now anything under $200 does not have to be signed for, so if you send something insured and you have no proof of delivery the buyer gets a full refund. I also found out the hard way that the USPS Delivery Confirmation is not foolproof also. Not that any postal worker would do it but all it takes is for the mailman to "forget" to scan in the DC number when delivered and guess what? A full refund is coming to the buyer. I think it's time I start going with UPS or FedX for my expensive items....

Yeah, I just didn't put up a link because pretty much everybody that sells Korean DVDs has it listed.

islandclaws 06-18-07 05:48 PM

All these foreign releases look great... but I'm going with the BB exclusive. PAL discs just plain suck on an NTSC television. I'm not saying they look terrible but they never look as good as NTSC. I buy films for picture quality first and foremost, everything else is just gravy.

Korean DVDs are not PAL though, and Korean DVDs tend to have great picture quality. I understand what you are saying about PAL to NTSC conversion however.

I haven't decided whether to get the BB exclusive, if it is available in the US or the Korean Steelbook. I like the Spartan helmet, but I also really like Steelbooks. A coin flip situation.

Giggles 06-19-07 03:48 AM

It will be two for me. I'm definately buying the one with a helmet replica and since Korean LE is just a steelbook with nothing else to offer (in a packaging component I mean) I'll prefer EzyDVD's Tin Box. Tin boxes are cooler than steelbooks! :)

Living Dead 06-19-07 04:38 AM

Okay, I have a question for those of you familiar with EZYDVD. I just ordered the 300 tin (my first order from them), and it said on their page that international customers will pay a $9.50 shipping charge. But I took my checkout all the way to the end, and it never added that amount. It just said sub-total $AU36.21 GST FREE and gave me no option to select anything else. My receipt says the same thing.

$36.21 was only the price of the set. Is this just how the site works and I'll be charged shipping after the fact? I don't mind paying the shipping obviously, I just don 't want my order getting screwed up and making me miss out on the tin.

I also made my first order with them couple of days back and experienced the same. As I get it, we should check the shipping rates beforehand (they have it at FAQ or at Shipping Rates). By the way sometimes their exclusives have a special delivery cost, usually it's $AU20 for the tin boxes. I see it they apply the total at the invoice and till then we have to keep the whole amount in mind.

LKirven517 06-19-07 09:29 AM

is there a site with the Korean LE Steelbook information?...and a pre-order link?

I have never imported a DVD so I am kind of dumb on the subject. The only thing I can find is a Korean Tin Case Edition, which isn't the same as a Steelbook

Then you should get a player that does a better PAL to NTSC conversion, since PAL is actually a higher resolution, properly converted, it should look better than the NTSC, other things being equal.

LKirven517 06-19-07 12:20 PM

nevermind...the site I checked seemed to list all steelbooks as "Tin Case"

Any recommendations? I've got the Philips 642 after I had to replace my Sampo when it crapped out on me.

Oh, and I was referring to the R4 LE, not the Korean. I know R3 is NTSC.

Giles 06-19-07 12:41 PM

you know I just want the movie and the supplements - what's up with Amazon, why aren't the standard or the HiDef editions up for preorder??

I can recommend the Oppo - it's region-free, upconverts PAL and NTSC up to 1080i and is generally a kick-ass player.

I just pre-ordered my exclusive Best Buy 2 disc edition with the helmet but am i the only one who's tempted in buying a second copy at Futureshop for the Steelbook?

I'm a real sucker when it comes to Steelbook packaging. I even bought 'The Day after Tomorrow' only because it was in a nice pretty tin box! The movie was pretty okay i guess. :P

But yeah i just spent 47$ on my pre-order from best buy and i'm really tempted into buying the Futureshop steelbook edition.. someone stop me..

One more reason NOT to convert to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray! Freakin packaging! The collector in us just cannot accept those stupid tiny little red and blue boxes next to our pretty editions! :D

Here they are for those who didn't see them :

Big Worms 06-22-07 11:22 AM

No the collector in us buys these special editions just for the packaging and than buys the HD for the awesome video and audio quality you get. :)

And where can I purchase such a player?

Edit: I'm a lazy ass. I found what I needed by searching.
