If anyone wanted to know...

The steelbook will fit into the Slipcover of the regular DVD, but it's a tight fit.

I know, I'm a geek.

Yesterday my Best Buy got 16 more copies of the 300 set in.

I got one I will sell for $75 shipped! :eyebrow: Haha, I'm j/p.

I discovered that standard slipcovers work on steelbooks with the Departed. Pretty cool to have both pieces fo artwork.

Now if I could just get myself a 300 steelbook.

As long as somebody is willing to pay for it, they will keep selling it at that price.

I finally got my hands on a 300 dvd/helmet. Yesterday I called up my local best buy and asked them if they will be getting anymore sets in, They said No and that it was a one time thing.....didn't believe them, or at least didn't want too.

Late last nite I checked bestbuy.com and figured why not see what the status is and lo and behold they were still sold out, But available to be picked up at my 3 local stores. Got in on one just for the hell of it and took my chances. Went to work and came home to see that my order was ready to be picked up. I still figured I would go to best buy and have a clerk say that we have none in the back, let me check the store shelves and be forced to leave the store with nada.

Anyway, went to best buy and went through the usual drill, she went to the back and came back with the set. I asked her if they have more (she said alot more in the back) and if she's been dealing with alot of pickup's. She seemed surprised by my last question and said that she didn't know it was such a hot item.

Well, my Best Buy Giftset FINALLY shipped yesterday (it's about time). I did, however, receive my Future Shop steelbook today, it's really nice. ^_^

but seriously, why in the world would you want to cover a "steelbook" up with the slipcover from a regular edition? doesn't that defeat the purpose of why you have the "steelbook" in the first place? sb art is usually more sedated and artful, especially "The Departed" sb.

I just figured it was a cool way to have both covers so I returned the 2 disc keepcase version I had bought, but without the slipcover.

It's not the art is not there when the slipcover comes off.

Thanks.

Watched all 3 DVD's today [2-disc 300 & BB Bonus DVD]. All of the stuff [except the Mobile Phone Game trailer] on the BB DVD has been ported over.

I guess I can toss my 4 copies of the BB DVD.

Your not alone, I did this with The Departed 2-disc steelbook dvd and have the regular 2-disc slipcover over it. It works if you ask me, though I guess it's not everyones forte.

Ah. Thank you very much.

Would anyone here who has a best buy with the helmet version in stock be willing to pick me one up? I'd pay for the shipping, I have a backordered one at bestbuy.com but I'm not very hopeful and the store employees keep telling me theyre not getting any more in, though it seems like some best buys are indeed getting more.

I'm convinced Xage is a multi-millionaire. It's the only way to explain how he can afford 50 different versions of a single movie.

I hope this isn't against any of the forum rules but I am including the email that I sent:

EMAIL

I wanted to contact Warner Home Video in response to what I consider the diminishing quality of the studio's DVD transfers on new releases. As of late, many of the studio's big releases have sported somewhat inferior transfers when compared to discs from other studios. I am an avid film collector and watch many movies, and I have noticed through visiting home theater aficionado and DVD websites that others share my concerns. Although catalog titles like the Green Mile Special Edition look excellent, new releases like The Departed, Blood Diamond and 300 are not exceptionally impressive. In what I hope is not a ploy to get consumers to switch to high definition at this time, new releases feature a lot of graininess and "noise" in the picture, and I have noticed that it is almost always much more evident at the beginning of the film. Some of the early scenes of 300 appeared as if a screen was placed over the image. Although I suppose a casual viewer may not notice this dip in quality, I must express my disappointment. Although I am not currently ready to upgrade to high-def, I expect the same quality that Warner Brothers provided since the onset of DVD. A simple browsing of DVD discussion sites like I mentioned would likely yield similar opinions and I hope that this issue can be addressed on future releases. Thank you for reading.

xxxx

I completely agree. I know that Synder shot this to have a specific "look", but the grain during the beginning of the film is out of control. Between this and The Departed WB is getting a rep for low-balling the SD buyers with pic quality in hopes of getting us to join the HD camp. Hell, they even advertise HD DVD right before the menus come up. I seriously doubt the correlation drawn between the two is coincidental.

Finally watched this tonight and was very disappointed in the transfer. Had read the review here and it stated that the transfer was very good. Don't know how they came to that conclusion. I know the movie is supposed to be "grainy", but this was way worse than that. Easily the worst transfer I've seen this year. It did tend to get a bit better as the movie progressed, but never looked great and some of the early scenes were just flooded with noise and ghosting. Tons of artifacts. Even my wife who never much notices PQ, commented early on in the movie about how bad it looked.

For the record, this was viewed on a 126" screen using a Panny 700 PJ.

Well, good LORD! No wonder it looked so bad. Take a 35mm negative, and blow it up that big, and tell me how much grain you see.

Try watching it on something a bit smaller. It will look much better. Trust me.
