Giggles, you know I have nothing but complete respect for you and your taste in movies. But I gotta ask: do you really like Saw enough to buy 70+ versions of it?

I mean I can understand Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's not only a classic, ground breaking movie. It's one of (if not the) best horror movies ever made. I just don't put Saw into even close to the same category. I actually disliked it when I first saw it in the theater and it wasn't until the 2nd viewing on DVD that I actually began to appreciate it. The story and effects were top notch but I thought the acting and dialogue detracted from it too much.

So, are you really that big of a fan? Or are you just going to do it because it seems like such a formidable task. I'm sure it will actually be easier simply because I would think TCM has more obscure and niche releases.

Regardless, you've inspired me to watch it again (last time was just before Saw 2 was released at theaters), so I'll check it out tomorrow night.

Yes, Dave, you're absolutely right - it does seem like a formidable task. My brother asked me yesterday: "Why don't you try to collect something decent, what is that special about Saw?" And I told him the film itself is not the only case here. For example I don't try to collect all editions of Se7en or Arizona Dream - two of my favourites. Because it's also about DVDs themselves - Saw trilogy has a great amount of releases worldwide, and they come mostly in fancy packages (which I'm sucker for). I had an idea before to complete a Silent Hill collection, but then realized there're just about 6 or 7 releases so it wouldn't be that challenging. But Saw... So to give a full answer I'd say I like the first Saw, dislike the second one and immensely love the third installment. Besides all three films have huge amount of nice-looking releases from different countries - that's enough for me to start thinking in this direction. And one more thing - this idea just popped in my head couple of days ago and now I can't get rid of it - so I've got nothing left to do :) No matter my wish list now has grown into somewhat 500 titles...

Anyone else, I'd say you've bit off more than you can chew. Good luck, I'd put money on you being able to do it.

Don't forget the Blu-ray's.

Well, we'll see, Dave :) I have Andy Dufresne's character in me, I can dig long enough and not fall into despondence.

Man, some of those (like SAW TRILOGY – 6-disc collection limited edition ) are going for like $100.00. I hope you're in the Russian mob ;)

I cant recall any "R1 - 6disc collection limited edition" ? What the UPC? and was it a store exclusive?

It looks like an Amazon's seller stunt no official release yet on that one.

Here it is - [Link to probable bootleg removed. D]
Indeed maybe it's their stunt, but 6 discs... With OST... I don't know. Besided the covers don't look like of regular editions. But if this trilogy does not exist I'd be actually glad to get this $100 release off my back :)

Wildo1966 05-08-07 10:02 AM

Sounds like you people have some searching to do! YES it does exist!

Like you're going to actually watch all 78 of the other versions?

Do you already have the blood pack of Saw I or the Lenticular Cover for Saw II? If not, I just upgraded to Blu Ray and was gonna throw them up on ebay. Send me an email if you are interested.

xage 05-08-07 10:04 PM

Commonsense:

1. Its only from one seller
2. There is no UPC for the said release

therefore its a bootleg!

Giggles, your R1 list still lacks a lot. Below are my R1 collection (though no fullscreen and french sets yet)

Yes, I guess you're right. I'll still leave it in my list for a while to get some further proof. And thanks for the picture of your Saws, I'll use it as R1 guide :) But if only you could clear this out for me: what are the two DVDs of first Saw from the right? About Saw II - what's the difference between two discs from the left? And the right one is in my list as a Canadian release, I guess. And about Saw III - what's the difference again between two lefts? And from the right are two exclusive editions which seem to be one American and other - Canadian (also in my list). Anyway that was the idea of the thread to get all these editions' issues clear, so thanks a lot.
By the way what did you mean by French sets?

Don't some R1 Canadian releases have an alternete cover in French? Maybe he means that.

Giggles 05-09-07 03:07 AM

Yeah, those might be the editions called "Saw: decadence". So much confusion and not a single trustworthy database. Oh, I feel this is going to be tough :) This is the formidable task you were talking about, Dave!

carnage6 05-09-07 10:08 PM

I have a screener of the first Saw movie in which the movie alternated between color & black & white so that people wouldn't want to copy it.

PG

xage 05-09-07 10:54 PM

The four SAW 3 DVDs I have are all exclusive editions (eventhough they have the same unrated feature).

The french sets are the R1 Decadence (1,2,3) (Out of weirdness, French countries and colonies named it Decadence)

These sets are different (thanks giggles for the decadence heads up) they were packaged and manufactured by different DVD distributor.

I will try to research further on these.. Yeah you are correct.. no trustworthy source to get information (but the great part of which is the challenge!)

Hey Xage, what are these SAW III exclusive editions? They're not available online?
By the way found out about some Russian releases of the trilogy. Got myself Russian Saw III yesterday :)

Hi Giggles, I posted my findings on these SAW DVDs in this thread (I just dont know why it ended up as a DVD Bargain Thread)

take your time, its 5pages

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread....6&page=1&pp=25

Giggles 05-11-07 08:46 AM

Thanks, Xage! It helped a lot.
At first I was a bit terrified - this "exclusive editions" thing is beyond my understanding. Surely it's more fun, but by far harder to collect when you have some amount of different stores' exclusive that you have to hunt down at first place. But challenge again...
I got a little sad for a moment, but then thought that untill there are people willing to sell their exclusives on ebay, we will have things to do. An idea came up to me also about starting with all Argento editions :)

xage 05-12-07 12:28 AM

Well wishes on your hunt! just make sure not to be taken advantage with the ridiculous amount of offers from auction hoarders.

FYI, 90% of my SAW R1 Collection were bought at a bargain price. And the manner of my hunt is more into actual visit to stores than the internet.

The difference is you live in California, US and I - in Moscow, Russia. You can't imagine what amount of movies is NOT released here at all. We have the only one store that sells non-R5 DVDs and they are very expensive (not to mention their inventory is pretty poor). That was how I discovered amazon etc. And anyway - shipping to Russia is always expensive. I can't use free shipping and every 3 DVDs bought on amazon cost me about $15-17 shipping. If I buy on ebay, it's hilarious how sometimes I have to pay for delivery more than for the item itself. So I don't have bargain prices here - take it or leave it. Maniac as I am I prefer taking it :)

tylergfoster 05-12-07 12:58 PM

If you really wanted to go nuts you could also pick up the Hollywood Video/Blockbuster versions of the three movies as they ditch the clear plastic packaging for standard paper packaging.

Giggles 05-13-07 03:41 AM

I really want to and I will, believe me :) Thanks for the tip about Blockbuster versions.

dizzlle01 05-13-07 02:28 PM

All of us complain about double dipping, while you guys buy 20 versions of the same movie. I think it's nuts, but whatever makes you happy. MY 2c

Note: Obviously this only applies to previously viewed product/rental product. Their sale copies of the movies are the same.

At this point, as a person who lives outside of US, I think I need a little insight into what Blockbuster is.

Blockbuster is a video rental store, most likely the largest chain in the US.

Thanks :) Now I get it.
So do they also sell their rental copies?

I know this thread is intended for other purposes, but should we expect a "director's cut" re-release of Saw III? It seems most times the DVD gets re-released right before the sequel, I've yet to buy Saw III.

There is a high probability that Lionsgate will do some sort of a special edition release (despite the release of the "unrated" SAW3)

Guess I'll have some work till the end of my days :)

Wildo1966 05-15-07 06:14 AM

I contacted the Amazon seller who is offering the Saw Trilogy Region 6 disk box set. Here is the response I got from him:

Item: Saw Trilogy 6 Disc Collection Limited Edition (Unrated Widescreen Edition) [DVD] [ASIN: B000GA5NYW ]

This collection comes in a 6 disc case, it's not in shrinkwrap, but the dvds are in excellent condition, it's one of a kind, and will never sold like this again(not by me anyway). There's already some uk dealers selling a trilogy collection, but it's only 3 discs, and your dvd would have to have a region free dvd player, because they're region 2 pal format. My collection has 6 discs (5 DVDS, 1CD) and the dvds are ntsc format and inserts are included. I don't have an exact scanned picture, because this item is shipped by a dvd source that ships my items directly to customers. But this is what the front cover looks like.(see attatchment)

Not sure what to make of this, the set not being sealed is not a good sign. Does Amazon allow seller to offer questionable items?

Thanks a lot, Wildo!
Maybe a well-made bootleg sometimes looks not like a bootleg at all... But it's still a bad sign this edition is not available anywhere else. My guess it may be some compilation of, for instance, the above mentioned Blockbuster rental copies with different covers (as seen on amazon picture) or something of this kind.

He also sent a scan of the box cover, a basic saw picture with the words Saw Trilogy on it. He could not provide any other scans as he states someone else ships them to the buyer. What is really interesting is that the set is 5 dvds and one cd.....What could the cd be and what movie only has one dvd (probably Saw III) I am tempted to contact Amazon to see if this seller is legit. His feedback looks ok....This one has me very curoius!
