Universal could put the trailers on the Psycho 4 disc. (assuming that one will get its own disc)

pbishop69 05-30-07 12:36 AM

According to Amazon, this is going to be a 2-Disc set......which is great for the obvious reason!!!!!!

Are these sequels TRULY good, or is this more of a nostalgia thing? I'd really like to know. I've seen the original a few times and like it. I always just assumed that the sequels were garbage and that that was the general feeling by most people, too.

Joel Goodsen 05-30-07 04:22 AM

I think the sequels are more than good. Psycho II is heavily under rated and I have probably watched Psycho II more than the first one to be honest. Psycho III is just a sit back and enjoy sort of film and Psycho IV finishes off the series nicely IMO.

They are all decent flicks and well worth owning.

Personally, I think 2 is excellent, 3 is a "so terrible it's good" type of movie, and 4 is pretty decent. It's definitely worth picking up.

Ethan VanSciver 05-30-07 01:25 PM

The sequels aren't GREAT...I mean they aren't Hitchcock by any means, but they pick up the story nicely and are surprisingly good. And it's nice to see Anthony Perkins reprising the role with such respect. I haven't see 4 yet, but 2 and 3 together would make picking this dvd up necessary.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment

Psycho IV: The Beginning will be presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic and I'm assuming it will be the unedited cut with extra violence and brief Olivia Hussey (as well as some other girl) topless nudity. This edition ran on Universal HD last fall and the print looked great. Basic cable channels (TBS, Bravo, AMC, etc.) always show the chopped up version. As far as the aspect ratio - I always assumed 1.33:1 was the OAR, but I've since heard that Psycho IV did play in the theaters briefly in select markets. Does anyone remember the AR that Showtime broadcast Psycho IV in back in 1990? Could it have been 1.78:1?

The Monkees 07-01-07 02:20 AM

Well I'm glad to hear that it will be unedited and in widescreen!

nateman 07-01-07 07:21 AM

 Great news!

I'm glad It's going to be all unedited & In widescreen. In regards to of the quality of the sequels, I think 2, 3 & 4 are all excellent movies & they might not be "Hitchcock standards" but they are great edition's to the series.

Ethan VanSciver: Psycho IV: The Beginning, which was made 4 years after the 3rd installment was a Showtime Original Movie & I'd say It's just as good If not better than the previous installment.

One thing I've liked about the Psycho sequels is that It's one of the few series that have actually stayed good movie to movie & Anthony Perkins
should be given props for agreeing to do 3 Psycho movies after the original, Which rarely happens In a franchise where the same actor is in all the movies of the franchise.

Forgot this was coming out this week. Picked it up yesterday and was worth the purchase. Disc 1 has Psycho II and Disc 2 has III and IV.

edit: Psycho IV does indeed include the violence and both topless scenes.

Any extras, trailers?

The Monkees 08-16-07 01:23 AM

I didn't check Psycho II or III but there is nothing on Pyscho IV, not even a scene selection! I would assume II and III have their trailers as the single disc releases did.

John Oaks 08-16-07 02:02 AM

The Monkees, where in Chicago did you get it from and how much?

Darkman for $9.99? Sold!

Darth Maher 08-16-07 06:00 PM

John Oaks, I got my Psycho Triple Feature at the Best Buy in Evanston (on Howard St.) for $14.99. They had about 5-6 copies. The Best Buy in Skokie (across from Old Orchard Mall), had ZERO.

Same with the Halloween Double feature, but it was $9.99.

Rammsteinfan 08-16-07 06:35 PM

Wait... if its $9.99 next week for Psycho, I should be able to take my receipt in for an adjustment correct?

Psycho 4 has chapters though there is no menu option! Just press the chapter forward or backward key on your remote or something. And you can skip through the film if you want.

Universal seems to be doing this lately and the Chucky dvd pack is the same. No menu option, but still contains chapters.

And the teaser/trailers are included for the first two films.

You know you could have spent $10 more and got three more titles/sets?
