Kidnapped DVD set.... Ugh!!!

Don't get me wrong by the tone of the thread title -- this is a great show, Entertainment Weekly gave it an "A" last week in their review of the DVD set, so I threw it on Netflix, watched the entire first disc in one evening and then went out and bought it because I was so into it....

So, I get to the end of disk 2 and there's an extra called "Ransom Notes" -- this is on disk 2 of 3, by the way, and after episode 9 of 13....

All of a sudden, near the end of this featurette, without any warning at all, they're talking about the last episodes and who plotted the kidnapping and why and how and on and on and on until I began to scream!

An open note to anyone from Sony Pictures: you don't put a spoiler filled featurette on disk 2 of a 3 disk set! Assholes!!

And, of course for anyone else watching this -- obviously, don't watch this featurette until AFTER you've seen the entire series if you don't want to know what happens!

Again...Ugh!!!

That really sucks. Although it should have been on Disc 3, I would not have even watched the featurette until after the final episode.

For fear of spoilers like this, as a general rule of thumb, I never watch the extras until I finish watching the whole season/series or film, no matter which disc they appear on.

I go by this general rule as well.

I'll certainly be making this a rule for myself in the future! Great series (or mini-series) though....

At least they didn't spoil key moments during the menus or other stuff that they would force you to sit through before watching the actual episode.

How many "on and on"s did you get through before you decided to hit stop?

i'll join in w/ the others...never, ever, ever watch supplemental material until finishing either the TV season or film.

had no idea this was even coming out, much less already out. Enjoyed the series when it was on.

just saw this at best buy, but didn't get to see it on it's very short run on tv. sounds like it's a good blind buy. anyone agree?

I liked the first few episodes but thought it was way too drawn out and boring. I didn't bother with it once it got shuffled around and the episodes put on NBC's website. I'm not buying it.

I was just talking about this show with a customer at my job. I had no idea it was already on DVD. Might have to pick it up tomorrow.

might check it out online first than.

Yep, watching supplemental material before watching the whole movie or series is a big mistake. You just know they're going to spoil something - whether it be big or small.

A bad spoiler was in the back of the Six Feet Under Season 5 DVD box. I don't know how HBO would've thought that it wouldn't spoil anything.

How about Disney/Beuna Vista on their recent Blu-ray release of THE GUARDIAN (not sure if they did it on the standard disc...it's not on the box), and labeling the Alternate Ending the
Spoiler:
"Randall Lives"
ending. :(

kaze0 04-30-07 09:58 AM

Yeah, don't watch extras until y ou watch the movie. It would be nice for them to have warnings before the fetaurettes though.

DeanoBKN 04-30-07 11:45 AM

I'm real sorry to hear about that, but thanks for the heads up at least. So stupid for them to put that featurette on the 2nd disc.

You know, I didn't notice it at first glance, but since I was already spoiled before watching season 5, it didn't come too much of a shock. Still...bad choice of picture.

Kevin Roebuck 05-07-07 04:12 PM

I thought this series was excellent and it also has a stunning transfer. The picture via my Denon 2910 upscaled to 1080i looks almost hd like (I watched it in HD when it was running). This is the best transfer of any tv show that I have seen so far.

DiscGuy 05-08-07 12:58 AM

WOW!!! Thanks for the heads-up!

My brother and his family are big fans of the show. I know they intend to rent the discs through NetFlix...probably one/week. I'll be warning him tomorrow to watch out for disc #2 featurette spoiler(s). Featurettes placed on discs other than the last disc can ruin the show for the DVD renters who get the discs in order---one at a time.
