Nice setup JZ1276 looks really comfy.

Since there were some inquiries about the projector/DVD player I use, I decided to post just a few more screen shots.

Here's a front view of the EPSON Movie Mate (as you can see, it's quite small and compact).

Note: There are dials on the top of the unit that you can use to slide the image up/down and left/right on the screen, so the projector can be placed just about anywhere opposite the screen.

And, a few more screen shots, just experimenting with a big, blank, white wall and trying to maximize screen size:

Superman: the Movie, with shades open, daylight:

Raiders of the Lost Ark, shades drawn, night:

The Wizard of Oz, shades drawn, night:

One other thing that I didn't take a picture of: This projector comes with a subwoofer that you can connect to the front of the unit.

Nice jeffkjoe. How much noise does it emit? Any cooling fans that come on and disturb the show?

Surprisingly, no, the projector is whisper-quiet.

testpattern 04-25-07 12:06 PM

That Epson unit looks great!

Is there a keystoning issue and are there any input or output jacks, besides the subwoofer you mentioned? If there is keystoning, does it allow you to correct it?

I knew about LCD projectors of course, but nothing in this price range and that looks that good. Finding some listed online right now under $500.00.

I assume you are pleased with it or you wouldn't have wanted to show it.

egads, Oz in widescreen :/

I love this projector! For 500.00, you can't get a better deal for what this projector does!

You may get a keystoned image if the projector isn't placed parallel with the wall/screen, but you can correct this easily either by simply re-positioning the projector itself or adjusting the dials on the unit to tweak the picture left/right or up/down.

There are several inputs on the front of the unit: one red/white/yellow input, one input for the subwoofer, and one S-video input. My only beef with the projector is that it doesn't allow for HD-inputs.

You can input your cable-TV signal into this through the red/white/yellow inputs. I was watching regular network TV on this the other night.

Looks great! What model is that?

Have you taken it outside? (I'm thinking backyard theater here...)

I'd like to price compare!

When I saw your setup I thought "Great setup...but I can see wires!"

Can you tell me what size your tv is and what stand you got and from where?

I plan on getting a Panasonic soon like yours (maybe smaller). Thanks.

NitroJMS 04-25-07 09:35 PM

jeffkjoe,

Any chance we can get a few high res shots of the movie mate in action? I'm curious to see how it looks in a higher resolution. The small stills look great.

dvds... (done a bit of compressing in the upper shelves to save space (old wall was much smaller) this wall will hold a little over 2700)

Cool....When I get the chance, I'll post higher res pictures here - I wasn't too sure if people like having to scroll through big pictures, but I'll give it a go on the next round.

Those interested in the Epson Movie Mate may also want to look at this deal on the Optoma DV10. It only does 480p like the epson but it has vga inputs and a component to vga adapter for HD inputs. Comes with a screen and subwoofer for $599 after $100 rebate.

Circuit City Link

Then go to Wal-Mart and pick up this 12' inflatable screen for $199.

cfloyd3 04-26-07 12:24 AM

I am very intrigued by this Optoma deal because I read the picture quality was better than the Movie Mate but that was the Movie Mate 25. There is a new Epson Movie Mate 30s which comes with HD inputs now which I have not seen a review for yet. The DVD insert at the top seems kind of spotty but the best video quality means the most obviously.

testpattern 04-26-07 09:33 AM

Following up on the Epson MovieMate stuff. There is a also another model available now, instead of just the MovieMate 30s, there is also a 33. The price is about double the msrp of the 25.

BTW, I don't believe it has been mentioned yet, but the MovieMate 25 has been discontinued. I have still been able to find it easily though.

I really started researching these yesterday and at this point am leaning towards the 30s, but thanks for heads up on looking at the Optoma DV10.

Anyone out there using the Optoma?

bboisvert 04-26-07 10:07 AM

smirnoffski - your .sig's out of date. ;) Zenda and Robin Hood are both available.
