African Queen
At Play in the Fields of the Lord
Personal Best

Seriously, I believe I am the only living person who wants the last two. They are never mentioned in a "movies never releaed on DVD" thread.

A decent edition of The Last Emperor would have been on this list too, but now that Criterion is apparently going to do it, I can strike that one.

Since I posted this over 2 years ago, we are still missing these movies. What a crime...

Anne of a Thousand Days (crap combo release)
Sleuth (Needs a new release)
Apu Trilogy
Duck Soup
Greed
Celine and Julie go Boating
African Queen, Magnificent Ambersons (obligatory add-ons)

Now adding on:

The Emigrants
A Thousand Clowns
Sons and Lovers
The Human Comedy
The Stunt Man
Face to Face

Re: When, when, WHEN??!? Where are these movies???

At first glance, I thought America, America was Captain America.

Which makes me ask...

Why isn't Captain America on DVD yet? Sure, it was craptacular, but Howard the Duck came out already so it's not like they can't release the worst of the titles on DVD.

Re: When, when, WHEN??!? Where are these movies???

I'm still waiting for Legend Of Billie Jean, Electric Dreams, RAD, and a few other craptastic 80's flicks.

There are also a handful of 80's-90's Disney Channel films I would love to get - yet I have just enough self respect not to list them here.

Instead of whinning about a non-existing NTSC Region 1 dvd, you should buy a multi-region dvd player and order those dvds from other countries. It doesn't cost more money to import, especially if you are a dvd buyer that is already compulsively buying dvds.

The following DVDs exist with either English audio or English subtitles somewhere in the world:

America, America
Anne of a Thousand Days
Sleuth
Apu Trilogy
Duck Soup
Celine and Julie go Boating
African Queen, Magnificent Ambersons (obligatory add-ons)
Sons and Lovers
The Human Comedy
The Stunt Man
Face to Face
Seven Beauties
Captain America
Electric Dreams

Re: When, when, WHEN??!? Where are these movies???

Wow. So Paramount hasn't released yet 1492:Conquest Of Paradise, Looking For Mr Goodbar, Bugsy Malone and of course the highly anticipated The African Queen. Lots of star power there (Gerard Depardieu and Ridley Scott, Jodie Foster, Richard Gere and Diane Keaton, Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn). Not sure why no effort has been made to release them, but these would sell as bare bones catalogue titles if they did an admirable job with the video transfers. I wonder what could be holding them all back...

Overseas, yes, but not everyone wants to import a DVD. You have your renters (Netflix, Redbox) and if a movie is not on DVD is goes unnoticed unless it's on TV all the time. Both those films should at the very least get DVD or Blu-ray treatment in the USA at some point in time, especially The African Queen and 1492. I do remember Bugsy Malone and 1492 being announced and cancelled and they never set a new release date for them.

Sorry, don't have 1-2 thousand dollars to get these rare overseas dvd's... I don't think it is whiny or unreasonable to ask for a US release at a fair price with standard artwork. I guess you do?

The Stunt Man is still available. I wasn't aware it was out of print, but is a fantastic DVD. Used copies are on Amazon for less than what I bought a new copy for.

As for spending 1-2 thousand dollars on overseas DVDs, you really aren't spending that. You can get a multi region DVD player for $40 and each DVD usually costs around what you would pay for a US one. Sometimes even less.

It is definitely not unreasonable to ask for an authentic region 1 release. Some of us have no desire to get a region free playerthat will play pal as well as ntsc discs.

yeah but then you gotta trust some foreigner shipping it to you.

so it's just easier to fly over there, rent a car (or get a taxi) , possibly even a hotel.

depending on the country- it'll set you back 1-2 thousand per DVD

Re: When, when, WHEN??!? Where are these movies???

I've noticed a few other titles I used to have on VHS which are not available on Region 1 DVD are:

Roman Polanski's Pirates
P.O.W. The Escape (Good/bad David Carradine flick)
If Looks Could Kill (Richard Grieco spy caper)
Blue City (Judd Nelson)
Ishtar
Feds (Rebecca DeMornay)
Summer Heat (Anthony Edwards/Lori Singer)
Steele Justice (Martin Kove)
Speed Zone (Cannonball Run-like car flick)
Siesta (Ellen Barkin/Gabriel Byrne)
The Unholy

In need of a decent re-issue

Johnny Handsome
Extreme Prejudice
The Sicilian

I caved in and bought the UK R2 SE of Ishtar, which was totally worth it. Have no idea why this can't get a catalogue release in the USA with a just fine DVD out in Europe.

I believe Blue City got a catalogue DVD release finally in the USA, here is the DVDtalk review:

Re: When, when, WHEN??!? Where are these movies???

I second or third Captain America

Most of the films that have been listed in this thread that are not out yet will most likely get released way before these ever will (if they get released):

Max Headroom
Song Of The South

Warner really needs to get out those silents they've been promising for the past few years:

The Big Parade
