Best DVD of March 2007
 

There were LOTS of good discs released in March, which do you feel was the best overall DVD released in March 2007?

Take into consideration the film, audio/video quality, and special features - NOT only the film!

Casino Royale was pretty damn cool....Plus it was a 2 disk set with no extra cost!

Even though it wasn't a special edition, Borat was still quite stacked, and a great movie!

Children of Men, which was also one of the best films of 2006.

Casino Royale, by far, a great movie and great features.

As for the DVD treatment, I think (of course) Criterion's releases.

Casino Royale, Childern of Men, Rocky Balboa all were treated nicely.

But i'll say either Peter Pan: PE or Shortbus as March's best.

Borat (hilarious film, novel packaging, menus and disc art, appropriate extras)

Runner up: Casino Royale (the savior of a franchise-the extras could have been more substantive and plentiful)

Honorable Mention: Children of Men (good film despite script problems, excellent AV, but silly disappointing extras)


I usually wind up voting for a Criterion title, but it was an underwhelming month for the CC.

I went with Casino Royale because its spine looks surprisingly good!

Just to piss baracine off, I voted for Peter Pan.-wink-

Casino Royale (BD) - amazing audio/video. Of course it's no comparison, but I was on a flight from San Jose and it was the inflight entertainment....I truly could not watch it. ;)

Definitely Casino Royale. As glad as I was to be able to get Peter Pan again (having lost the SE in Hurricane Charley) I was very disappointed in the short & unimpressive bonus features disc (especially for a Platinum release).

Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman Vol. 1 (although there are no special features)

Errol Flynn Signature vol. 2

& The fact that all the episodes are syndicated.

Runner-up: Shortbus

Kind-of a lackluster month for great DVDs (not the films, mind you, which are great for the most part). I'm gonna have to go with Children of Men for this month. It's a great movie, has very good video/audio, and some decent extras.

Best movie: Children of Men

Best overall DVD: Borat

Another vote for the W.C. Fields Comedy Collection: Volume Two.
