Where are these horror flicks?
I know there are many, many cult horror flicks floating around that haven't made it to R1 releases yet, or have subpar releases as it is. I just want to get a discussion going on these types of movies.
I know Night of the Comet finally got it's release recently. I'm waiting for my copy to get here. But what about films like Night of the Creeps? Phantasm 2? The Gate II? I read Monster Squad is being worked on by Lions Gate. I just watched the Gate earlier, and forgot how ambitious and great it is. It really deserves a much better DVD, any hopes for that?

I don't know why Phantasm 2 hasn't gotten a proper release in R1. And Night of the Creeps. They're both pretty high profile titles among unreleased recent horror films, and I see threads in just about every DVD forum asking about these two titles in particular on a monthly basis.

Well sometimes different regions get better things. I have an Avril Lavigne concert that is only available in region 2. I believe Child's Play is in widescreen in region 2. Halloween 2 and Halloween 3 have commentaries in region 2. I bought the Ginger Snaps trilogy from Canada and the first film is in widescreen with special features (I know Canada is region 1, but still)

How about the '80s cheesefest "Terrorvision"? I've noticed The Movie Channel has been playing it in a remastered(?) Letterbox version recently.

From Beyond. A spiffed up, remastered version has been showing on cable for a few months now and Stuart Gordon has said an SE is in the works.

Seriously, there is nothing to lose by doing this and everything to gain. It is very often possible to find releases in other regions that aren't available in your home one, or alternatively better releases.
I know that it is more unusual for those of you living in r1, because of the size and makeup of the market there, r1 generally has the largest selection of titles. However, it is still possible to find releases in other regions that are of interest.
Living in r2-UK, multi-regional capability is an absolute must. At least half of my collection consists of imported titles (most of them from r1). The r2 market is fragmented, and the UK part of it too small to support so many "niche" and "cult" titles that I want. Also, UK releases tend to be cut, whereas I can find uncut editions elsewhere. I also have a small number of discs from r3 and r4.
Buying and importing discs is very easy, it's no different from ordering from a more local store. And in the USA, your tax-free "import allowances" are much higher than our pathetic little one here in the UK, so you don't have to worry about extra costs like import taxes/duties!

In the DVD world, it really pays to be able to go global.
But, as I have said, there ARE quite a few titles that you can't get in r1 that you can get in r2, r4, etc.
We do have, for example, a rather nice boxset of all the Phantasm films that are all anamorphic OAR, from our own Anchor Bay. And r1 doesn't.
Sounds as though Phantasm II is stuck in rights hell over where you are.
