I'm glad that I held out and didn't buy the first release.

I didn't pick up the original version. But I can't believe the arrogance of releasing this 3 1/2 months after the 1 disc version. It makes me not want to get either version to be honest. I think I'll have to find an alternate method of seeing this film for the sole purpose of not giving my money to Paramount (borrow the disc, rent, etc).

Cool, I knew there would be something better than the 1-disc eventually. Glad it's coming sooner than later so I don't have to wait so long. Wonder if this means the Babel 2-disc set will also be announced soon too.

I'm surprised that people are surprised about this announcement.

While I am a little bit surprised they didn't wait a little longer to release this, it did seem inevitable that a special edition would come out at some point.

I didn't buy the first release, so this will definitely be a purchase for me.

I figured this was going to happen around Letters From Iwo Jima. I think I'll wait until they put them in one set which will happen.

Glad I rented the movie, which was a lot better than I expected. Will pick this up if the extras seem decent, maybe an extended cut?

That didn't take long. I held off on the single disc. I'd like to hold off for the inevitable set, but if I can get a good price I'll probably end up buying this.

Holy crap that was fast. I'm hoping for some great extras about the real people at Iwo Jima (something along the lines of Black Hawk Down would rock).

I also heard that Letters From Iwo Jima is being released around the same time that month, so it's not much of a coincidence.

The 22nd is Tuesday before Memorial Day. Everyone will be looking for a patriotic film. They probably did not want to wait putting out initial release and show a easy double dip.

Paramount/Dreamworks has US video rights to Flags of Our Fathers. Warner Brothers has US video rights to Letters From Iwo Jima. I'm not sure they're gonna pack these together. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Best Buy or Circuit City offers up a 2/something deal on these when both are available.

We ALL said there would be an SE coming up soon for this one. I held off and rented it from Netflix. Now that I've got an HD DVD player, I'll probably pull the trigger in May.

What Lorenzol said. A definite must buy for me, though I'm unsure whether I'll buy the SD, HD or Blu Ray version.

Pretty surprising to me at least. The first release was barebones and Eastwood isn't really known for his bountiful extras. I guess Paramount just released it early as an Oscar push.

I held out for the HD-DVD version and it is going to have all the extras. Sweet!

I'm not surprised that they're doing it.

I am hoping BB does like when Kill Bill was released and puts out a special case to hold both Flags and Letters (the superior film, IMO).

Splice them together as one extra long film only available in a super-limited release...yes, more limited than the Jarhead SE.

Prediction

Letters comes out as a single disc, and the studio slaps it along with the barebones Flags disc in a nice slip cover and tries to pass it off as a special set.

Then a few months later, it gets re-released ala this Flags disc and once again a bundle will be made.

Finally, a definitive set will be released of both films exclusively together with the soundtracks thrown together to entice repeat buyers.
