Even though Borders says it is in stock it evidently doesnt mean much. I tried to reserve on the website at two stores where it says its in stock and they emailed me that they dont have it.

It's Japanese, from the original manga that inspired the movie.

www.moviesunlimited.com says they have it in stock for $31.99 + $3.50 shipping (they're located in Pennsylvania).

I used Borders' online inventory checker, and the one near my work had it available. I reserved a copy and they confirmed it via email, so I went to pick it up. While I was at the store, I checked the shelves and they had a second copy in stock. I guess I could've picked it up to sell it, but I'm hoping it might be purchased by someone who actually wants to keep it. It was $40, but I really like this movie, and I'm willing to pay a little extra if it's really going OOP. I can sell my single disk version of the movie to recoup a bit of the cost, too.

Yes, they are available at my local Borders or B&N. I fail to see the sudden urgency here.

The urgency stems from the fact that a copy is nigh impossible to find online for less than $100, and there are no retailers anywhere in my area that carry it.

edit: That being said, if I find out that FYE.com doesn't actually have it in stock; would you, BuckNaked, be willing to purchase one of those copies, I will sent you payment, and you can then send me said copy? My e-mail address is "biomechanoid75 at yahoo dot com".

Hmm... I'm considering picking this up from Borders. I did the store inventory search and all 3 Borders nearby have it in stock. I do love this movie and already have the single disc. Decisions decisions...

Is it really OOP?

If you love the movie, you should pick up the tin... even if it wasn't OOP.

Is it really OOP for good or just out of stock?

I guess I could see the tin+filmcell+manga edition not being reprinted, but Tartan would be stupid to make the discs themselves unavaliable.

DVDAf hasn't flagged it as OOP yet, so I'm wondering if it's just an out-of-stock situation at the moment.

For what it's worth, this set isn't even listed on Tartan's USA site anymore either. The only UPC they list now is the one for the other R1 version, and all of the information listed is for that version as well. There is a link on the page that says "Buy Now", but that links to the Amazon page for the 3-disc tin.

That's cool I may just pick it up at Borders. It's cheaper with a 20% off coupon.
If you live in a state that has an FYE, would there be tax? I think so right?

I think I had to pay tax, but no shipping. I'm sure one could find it for a lower price at a local Borders or whatever, but it was my only option.

I can confirm that it is indeed OOP now. I emailed Tartan USA about this yesterday and I just got the following reply:

Hi Brent:

I just received your inquiry about the Special Edition OLDBOY box set. At this point it is out of production and we have not yet reached a decision on whether or not we will re-release it in limited quantities.

Best,

Ditto. For Twin Cities folk, as of 4PM today, there was still one available at the Burnsville Center location. Not a bad price for this now confirmed OOP set.

For shits and grins, yesterday I did an inventory check at some of my local Borders and 2 showed in stock. So for those in the area can give 'em a shot if you haven't got it already.

I know i'm going to sound like an ass for saying this but i'm probably going to buy one i saw at my local borders for a profit. If anyone is having that much trouble and is in this board i'd resell it for like 60$ probably otherwise I can try hawking it off elsewhere. I hope that anyone who wants it can find it though because it is a movie you will never forget.

Borders online is tied into Amazon.com. If Amazon doesn't have it, Borders won't either.
