I wouldn't worry too soon, "extended cut" doesn't mean "director's cut" and doesn't necessarily mean a better film.
In many case I'd stick with the original over the extended cut. Most of the time those scenes were initially cut for a reason.
I'll hole out for reviews before I start worrying about double dipping or not...hell, considering I've only watched my current DVD once in the past several years the chances of me being interested in this new release are pretty slim.

Still never grabbed the Special Edition so I'll pick this one up. Only saw this movie once and I recall enjoying it so it'll be fun to revisit it with an extended cut.
Thanks for the info!

Sony probably just put all of the deleted scenes (which are on the current DVD) back into the movie like in their "extended editions" of Tears of the Sun, The Patriot, Black Hawk Dawn, etc.

Interesting, but I'll do a wait and see on this one.

I'd be more upset if this were a more loaded SE.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced an extended cut of Donnie Brasco which stars Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, and Michael Madsen. This Mike Newell directed film will be available to own from the 8th May, and should retail at around $19.94. The new cut (with 20 additional minutes added) will be presented in a digitally remastered anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a director audio commentary, and an exclusive Donnie Brasco: Out from the Shadows featurette. The art hasn't been revealed yet, but we'll bring you that shortly.

Ummm, that featurette isn't exclusive; it was on the SE. Also, there were separate deleted scenes (with commentary) that I assume have been left off because now they're back in the film. I'll have to pull out my copy and listen to those to find out if they were cut for good reason or not. I wonder if they just edited all the commentary together. It would be hilarious to hear him saying on the extended cut something like "this scene doesn't fit at all, so that's why we cut it."
This is coming to BD as well BTW, but it remains to be seen what, if any, extras are included.
I'll definitely wait for a review on how the film is affected by the extra footage.

Just checked, the deleted scenes only total maybe 7 minutes... so it'll be interesting to see what else is included. The director liked all the scenes, but just cut them for pacing issues due to test screenings. Hope the BD includes the 'Out of the Shadows' doc, it's excellent.

Almost bought the SE on a few occasions but decided not to. I'm in for this sometime down the line. I'm sure it'll be like most of Sony's Extended Cuts and will be on sale for under $10 at BB or something...

Love the film... Shame the cover was made in a 3 minute photoshop exercise though.
I own the current SE, and I don't usually like the idea of these "extended editions" which have scenes cut for a reason. Waiting for a review as well..

I kinda like the cover...it's almost the same as the original movie poster and much better (in my opinion) then the special edition DVD cover.

One of my favorite films. No need for this edition. Will keep my SE.
