Summer School-Special Collector's Edition----->5/22

The Digital Bits is reporting a SCE for May 22nd...

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

A summertime classic gets the special edition treatment from Paramount. I bought the barebones disc upon its release a few years ago and never imagined a SCE would ever be released. Quite a suprise imo.

Ditto. Paramount really seems to be digging into their catalog titles.

How about re-releasing some of those non-anamorphic discs, EH, Paramount???

Bacon 02-07-07 04:38 PM

I'll pass unless the extras are unbelieveabe
now how about an SE of 48 hrs, Coming to America and the other Eddie Murphy titles

Mondo Kane 02-07-07 05:24 PM

Wasn't expecting this one! But alas, we'll wait and see what's in store....

Same here. With HD(Blu Ray and HD-DVD) on the go and the fact I already own the first release, I cannot justify picking up all of these extra special special edition dvds the studios keep wanting to release again and again. I'll wait for the HD version. :)

EdTheRipper 02-07-07 06:20 PM

I love this movie but I'll stick with my barebones edition.

Maybe since Eddie's got some acclaim for Dreamgirls, Paramount will resurrect some of those Eddie Murphy titles like Trading Places and 48hrs. into a SE for 2007.

meritocracy 02-07-07 06:39 PM

A surprise SE to be sure. I also seem to fall within the consensus here. This is a guily pleasure of mine, but unless the extras are truly compelling, I've zero interest in upgrading.

Same here, this is not a masterpiece of movie making but a fun film and the barebones version is quite enough to satisfy. I was surprised by this release news as well, didn't think this would be considered for a SE release from Paramount.

Bring on an Eddie Murphy collection Paramount!

scottp120 02-07-07 07:25 PM

How about a special edition of Private Parts?

basaro 02-07-07 09:11 PM

I've got the first release which is anamorphic, so I will also not be upgrading. Paramount stayed mainly away from all the double dips in the past, now they're coming out with all sorts of pointless re-releases.

Yeah, I was going to say this is getting out of hand. Is there really that much of a demand for a SE of Summer School?

MovieMaster11 02-07-07 11:24 PM

I think I'll wait for the Summer School:Super Summer School Edition

bunkaroo 02-07-07 11:42 PM

What no lame name like the 'We're Psychopaths!" Edition?

It's coming don't worry :)

This is a real surprise, never thought this would happen. I might get it, unless it's just some stupid featurettes or something.

islandclaws 02-08-07 01:02 AM

^You know it is. Unless there are some earth-shattering deleted scenes they've unearthed or a new cut of the film I'm just not interested. Those are really the only 2 reasons I double dip on anything anymore.

Yeti4623 02-08-07 01:44 AM

Talk about a surprise. The only way I'll get it right away, is if there's a commentary.

I mean I know we all can't keep it in our pants with HD-DVD, but do you really think they are going to release Summer School on HD?

Give me a break...

Which ones would those be? Paramount was one of the first studios to commit to anamorphic transfers for all their dvds. I have a few older Paramount discs, and though the transfers may vary, they are all anamorphic.

TheNightFlier 02-08-07 11:58 AM

Pleasant surprise. Haven't bought the current release, a commentary would be great.

I have to agree. I saw this in the theaters. What are they really going to have as "extras"? :hscratch:

LorenzoL 02-09-07 01:49 PM

I'm shocked that this movie is getting a SE version. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of this movie and own the existing version but what kind of extras is Paramount planning for this movie?

meritocracy 02-13-07 01:41 PM

Summer School 'Life's A Beach Edition' Cover and Specs @dvdactive

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced a special edition of the Carl Reiner directed Summer School which stars Kirstie Alley, Mark Harmon, and Courtney Thorne-Smith. The "Life's A Beach Edition" will be available to own from the 22nd May, and should retail at around $14.99. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with English Dolby Digital 5.1, and 2.0 Surround tracks. Extras will include an audio commentary by director Carl Reiner and Mark Harmon, an Inside the Teacher's Lounge featurette, a Summer School Yearbook feature, a photo gallery, and the trailer.

A moronically titled SE combined with yet another hideous cover, but that commentary might actually get me to upgrade.

Yeti4623 02-14-07 06:59 AM

Yes! There will be a doubledip on May 22.

Yeah, how about even just an anamorphic Coming To America? Throw us a bone here!
