Easily one if this year's best films!

I didn't think so personally.

It was well-done and Helen Mirren was astonishing, no question about that (though my personal pick for Best Actress this year was Kirsten Dunst), but it felt a lot like Capote (excellent performance and directing, but lacking).

I would have loved to see a commentary with both Helen Mirren and the real Queen Elizabeth.

Considering how much newsreel footage was shot during that period, there should be some substantive extras in addition to the commentaries.

This was definitely high on my 2006 "top ten" list!

i'll pick it up!

Ha, keep dreaming. ;) At least having a commentary from Mirren would have been nice, though. I just saw it today and it was quite enjoyable. Michael Sheen is Tony Blair, no wonder Frears has used him twice in that role.

Sadly, my girlfriend kept saying "that's Drop Dead Fred! He played Drop Dead Fred!" For an Anglophile like me who actually knew who Rik Mayall was long before Drop Dead Fred, it was pretty pathetic. Of course this is coming from the woman who was shocked to find out that "the guy who plays House" is really British. Had to pull out an episode of "Jeeves & Wooster" -- that really freaked her out. ;)

I wonder if they've already started printing the cover art with the Best Actress win on it. :)
