Battlestar galactica ?

Hello all...new to this site, and I have a quick question...
I want to buy the original Battlestar Galactica series box set. Besides the paCKAGING, IS THERE ANY DIFFERENE IN THE SETS (EXTRAS, PICTURE QUALITY, ETC.)
Thanks for any help

SterlingBen 01-28-07 06:12 PM

nope

Filmmaker 01-28-07 06:48 PM

No difference at all; the new, more basic packaging design was simply Universal's attempt to satisfy fans who were griping that the original 3-D Cylon head packaging was too cumbersome to shelve easily. They're right, but it's still way more wicked than the redone packaging and I'm glad I have it, problematic shelving issues aside.

I was thinking of getting the original release (cheaper at DDD anyway), just wanted to make sure the extras were the same(their sites dont list the same extras)
Thanks for the info : )

I hate the damn Cylon head, I wish I got the regular packaging but it wasn't out yet when I got mine.

I got the Cylon head packaging with the B&N sale and would have rather gotten the other version, but I simply could not justify the difference in price.

Cylon head is a royal pain in the ass!

The Cylon Head's cumbersome, but I got it for $35 at the DDD 20% off sale, so I'm not complaining.

Isn't the regular packaging pretty much the same as what's INSIDE the Cylon head anyway?

More or less, yeah.

No, the one inside the head has no labeling, so if you put it on
a shelf as is, there is not text on the spine to identify it.

She said "pretty much", not "identical".

If you think a text-less spine is "pretty much" the same as a texted one, you obviously aren't a serious collector. The Criterion fans would kill you for that comment :)

I like the Cylon head, I look over at it and say By Your Command all the time, I know it's lame but I wouldn't be doing that with the reg box set, it just something fun

No, but I think the exact same disc contents that are found in the 3-D Cylon head placed in a standard sized case = "pretty much".

Some quick help. I've grown tired of waiting for this series to drop in price, so I think I'm going to order the Region 2 set from amazon.co.uk. Does anyone have a comparison of R1 vs R2 for this?

Fixed :)

I need to get this set someday, but after seeing the new series, I can barely watch the old one.

Thanks, that was for the movie but I was able to find the series from there. Unfortunately it says the R2 set is lacking in some extras, so I don't know if I want to pull the trigger now.

I think the Cylon packaging is still available since that is the photo posted at Amazon and all the ebay sellers have pictures of the Cylon packaging.

Also I heard the DVDs are flippers ouch.

^ from my understanding, the regular box is readily available. however, the cylon head-shaped box below is not.

The DVDs are flippers. Gold on one side and Silver on the other to mark them, which is cool. Although one of my discs (#4 I think...to lazy to look) is misdone and so doesn't match up. Right eps but the gold and silver side are reversed.

I have the regular package and it is a very nice set with a large, colorful, booklet that tells about every episode. It is a VERY nice package.

I actually (gasp!) like this show more than the newer one. Mainly because it isn't as depressing. The new show is way to dreary for my tastes. Although, I also like camp sci-fi, which this is, so it is constantly making me go :)

Good show, though def overshadowed by the stellar remake.
