How many Droopy Dog cartoons were there?

Upper pylon 3 01-18-07 03:39 PM

These are the only theatrical Droopy cartoons that I know of:

Dumb-Hounded 1943
The Shooting of Dan McGoo 1945
Wild and Woolfy 1945
Northwest Hounded Police 1946
Senor Droopy 1949
Wags To Riches 1949
Out-Foxed 1949
The Chump Champ 1950
Daredevil Droopy 1951
Droopy's Good Deed 1951
Droopy's "Double Trouble" 1951
Caballero Droopy 1952
The Three Little Pups 1953
Drag-A-Long Droopy 1954
Homesteader Droopy 1954
Dixieland Droopy 1954
Deputy Droopy 1955
Millionaire Droopy 1956
Grin and Share It 1957
Blackboard Jumble 1957
One Droopy Knight 1957
Sheep Wrecked 1958
Mutts About Racing 1958
Droopy Leprechaun 1958

There were only 24. Maybe they will throw on some bonus Tex cartoons. I just hope they are uncut.

PixyJunket 01-18-07 03:54 PM

Too bad they couldn't just issue the Complete Tex Avery Collection that was on LD to DVD.

Alot of those on that list weren't directed by Avery so hopefully they will put them all together as one release.

Super Leviathan 01-18-07 05:50 PM

Does this mean that that rumored complete Tex Avery DVD set isn't happening?

dvd-4-life 01-18-07 06:20 PM

Maybe they will do seperate releases.

Albert71292 01-18-07 06:55 PM

Sweet!

milo bloom 01-18-07 08:59 PM

Great news!

Except, were there ever any elements in these that could be considered un-PC? I don't want another Tom & Jerry here.

Super Leviathan 01-18-07 09:07 PM

One or two of the Droopys have blackface gags, but other than that, the Droopy series is overall one of the least un-PC cartoons series put out by MGM

Cameron 01-18-07 09:21 PM

good news

for those with region free and french speaking folks...you might be interested in this.

I have the Compleat Tex Avery set on laserdisc, and of all of the Droopy Cartoons, only Droopy's Good Deed had one gag cut. If you remember the cartoon, it's after the part when the old man's hat blows away and Spike takes it from Droopy after he sees the old man pull out money to give to Droopy. As he's counting it, the bomb Spike put in the hat explodes and the old man and Spike are in black face, and the old man sounds like Steppin Fetchit.

Stay far away from that set.

7 cartoons have gags cut (Droopy's Good Deed is cut even more on the French DVD set than on the Laserdisc), and and another 4 are totally missing

marty888 01-19-07 09:07 PM

Great news - and yes, we need all the Avery titles!

Upper pylon 3 01-20-07 01:28 AM

This was just posted by Jerry Beck at:

http://www.animationshow.com/forums/...showtopic=3072

There will be a complete Avery set... IF the Droopy set sells well.

The Droopy set is being put together by the family group as far as I know. I have minimal involvement at this point, but that could change.
I'm sure this will sell huge numbers, so looks like more Tex will be coming. Hopefully Jerry will be able to get more involved and insure that these will be uncut.

I really wish they would just release a whole mixed cartoon Tex Avery set with a Looney Tunes Golden Collection treatment...

Yeah, only 15 of the 24 Droopy cartoons were solely directed by Avery.

Caballero Droopy (1952) was directed by Dick Lundy, while Avery was on a year-long sabbatical from MGM.

Deputy Droopy (1955) was left unfinished when Avery left the studio for good, so Avery animator Michael Lah completed the cartoon. Lah then took over the character, directing the seven remaining Droopy cartoons.

Unfortunately, the non-Avery Droopys will drag down the DVD set to some extent -- they're not very good, especially compared to the brilliance of the originals.

jmj713 02-17-07 03:38 PM

YES a complete Droopy collection!

Mr. Salty 02-17-07 05:43 PM

Let's just hope Warner Bros. hasn't made a mistake that will result in a disc exchange.
