Sony has announced a collector's edition of The Guns of Navarone starring David Niven and Gregory Peck. The film will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Surround tracks. Extras will include a new commentary by film historian Stephen J Rubin, a commentary by director J. Lee Thompson, a "Forging the Guns of Navarone" documentary, a “Iconic Epic of Heroism” documentary, a "Heroic Score” featurette, another featurette on the restoration process, a narration-free prologue, a 'Roadshow Intermission', and a "The Memories of Navarone" retrospective documentary. Completing the package will be "A Message from Carl Foreman", original featurettes ("Great Guns", "No Visitors", "Honeymoon On Rhodes", and "Two Girls On The Town"), talent files, and production notes.

The film will receive a digitally remastered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with English and French Mono tracks. Extras will include an all-new audio commentary (participants to be confirmed), and a retrospective featurette with archival footage. Guns of Navarone and The Caine Mutiny will each be available to own from the 20th March, and priced at $24.96 a piece. We've attached the artwork below:

The Caine Mutiny was actually re-released with new cover art just last year. Both of these movies were in the Davinci Code free ticket promotion. I had held out for some time, but getting a free movie ticket and the disc for 9.99 each was a deal.
don't see myself upgrading anytime soon...possibly if i find them at a low low price and the picture quality is better.

the real surprise would be if Sony would actually release a pre 1980 film, like these, on Bluray (but I ain't holding my breath - they just continue to release average Hollywood fodder in HiDef).
