NC-17 rated version vs R rated version of "Murder-Set-Pieces"
 

A clarification by the filmmaker himself.

"Hey guys,



There was 22 minutes cut out of the Lion's Gate 83 minute "R" rated version of "Murder-Set-Pieces"!! (twenty-two minutes)......a record for a horror film!!



The Lion's Gate "R" rated version is based on the THEATRICAL CUT---which ran 105 minutes. LG's version is now 83 minutes!!



My Director's Cut DVD of "M-S-P" runs 90 minutes. It is Uncut as well, but I tightened the film to my original vision. (I edited my Director's Cut version for artistic reasons, not censorship reasons).



So, the Lion's Gate version was edited from the 105 minute Theatrical Cut.



Lion's Gate edited it for censorship reasons. (The only reason they edited it from the Theatrical version, and not my Director's Cut, is to pad the running time---other wise the film would time in at 68 minutes!!)



(Note: Both the Theatrical 105 minute Cut and my Director's Cut 90 minute DVD (released by Fright Flix Productions) are UNCUT, NC-17 rated versions!!.



Both the Theatrical Cut and my Director's Cut versions are essentially my vision......where as the Lion's Gate "R" cut was done to appease the MPAA--- (Motion Picture Association of America---and----get it into Blockbuster Video.




"Murder-Set-Pieces" was NEVER intended to be an "R" rated film. It was made with the "NC-17" rating firmly in mind from the beginning.




I DID NOT edit this new "R" rated cut from LGF.



My vision was edited by the great Todd Ramsay (John Carpenter's "The Thing").



Seeing the "NC-17" rated version of "Murder-Set-Pieces", is an entirely different experience than the severely edited "R" rated version.........

....(and, I'm not only talking about the gore scenes, the rape scenes, the child murder scenes, and the torture scenes.......I'm talking about the specific dialouge that is edited out of the film, the music, the cinematography and the editing, period..... etc...etc...)




I am honored that LGF picked up my film for distribution for the masses, and it is also my hope that one day everyone can see "Murder-Set-Pieces" the way it was meant to be seen.



Hope this clears up all the controversy.

I rented this tonight and will view it soon. From what I am told by those who have seen the uncut version of the film. Is that the film should be titled Aftermath Set Pieces,since very few of the murders are shown onscreen. And we're only shown the aftermath with tons of blood splatter and or body parts. And the couple onscreen moments are incredibly fake looking they say.

So if the majority of the gore is just aftermath glimpses. If they chop down on all that,then not much will be left obviously. It'll be interesting to finally see the film in some form though. But it sounds like a major butchur job and the uncut version definitely should be released,regardless if it's a good film or not.

I'd be interested to hear how it compares since I have the DC.

Gore hounds will be disappointed with the NC-17 version, downloaded it a while back and thought it was incredibly lacking giving its reputation. It doesn't go too far past a typical R hollywood horror flick.

That's bullshit, and I'm calling you on it. 22 minutes had to be cut out of the film for an R rating. What did the MPAA cut out nudity? No cause it's all there. Swearing? It's a different film cut and not comparable. For those interested buy the Uncut and don't look back.

Good thing I saw this thread so I could cancel my R-rated preorder. Ordered the unrated DVD from xploited, so I'm looking forward to it. Where's the Blu-ray?

I got the Unrated cut for my birthday last year (along with his other film NUTBAG) and I think they are both god awful... pretty much unwatchable. I liked the gore and nudity in MSP but overall that couldnt even save the film. I dunno why I even have held onto these for this long...

Nice plant...

Jesus, this is bad... I don't know whether to blame Palumbo himself or somebody else involved in production (I'd guess the former). The "promotion" for MSP so far has consisted of going on message boards and talking about how sick and demented it is... IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND AND RAPE YOUR FAMILY! ... uhh... it's not very good. Horrible, in fact. And not in a "this is SICK!" way... in a "this fucking sucks" sort of way. A bloody german making crazy faces is not scary, sick, whatever. It was downright comical, in the opinion of those who saw it. On the same level as "The Last House on the Left 2006"... I mean, Chaos. Great for MST3K parties, though! Right next to "Hammerhead Shark Frenzy", it's perfect.

Hopefully Palumbo will back off the deluded self-promotion and work on making his next film (if applicable) better, so that it can stand on its own without hopeless shilling.

I enjoyed it on a sleaze level. It's decent trash. It is nothing to get too enthusiastic about and is hardly well made.

Ya, this movie wasn't disturbing in the least. Amateurish is the word that comes to mind first. Stupid would be next. Whoopdeedo, it was shot on 35mm. Who cares?

Anyone looking for something really disturbing may want to check out Unearthed Films DVD release of "CANNIBAL". I watched that last night and can't seem to wash it out of my head. I've seen some sick sh*t, but that movie really pushes the envelope farther than anything M-S-P could ever dream of accomplishing, and it's based on a true story. Maybe the sickest most deranged film I've ever seen. I think the DVD-Talk reviewer hated it, but don't dismiss it on that one opinion. And, no, this isn't a plant.

Agh! It's the War of the Plants™! Somebody get Dr. Boll on the line, he needs representation! :)
