Just read the DVDTalk review, and it does seem that there are only excerpts from Rockshow because the first two discs only contain music videos/"promo clips". All the live stuff is relegated to Disc 3, so the review is probably accurate in that it's only excerpts of each show.

The Passion of Darkly Noon is available on DVD, but it's in fullscreen. Was the laserdisc WS?

Technically, no. The Criterion set includes the "Final Director's Cut" and the "Love Conquers All" TV version. It does not contain the U.S. theatrical cut or the European theatrical cut. However, the Final Cut is nearly identical to the European cut except for a couple of small changes.

I thought that there was a widescreen disc somewhere?

What is the difference in these cuts of Brazil?

The complete series was just released in the US -

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Tek...te-Series/9562

So Season 1 and Season 2 can both come off the list.

The Compleat Al has never been released on DVD. It is is a mockumentary about "Weird Al" Yankovic released in 1985. It has been out of print since the late 80's, and is very rare and highly sought after. No DVD release is expected.

I have it on DVD, but I dubbed it from the old VHS I bought back then. Better than nothing I guess. At least it's somewhat "preserved" now. :-)

Re: Laserdisc titles still not available on DVD?

Paul Simon: Paul Simon's Concert In The Park

This was released on VHS and Laserdisc (and also available on CD/LP and cassette) but is the only one of Paul Simon's videos not yet to make it to DVD.

Could it be that it falls foul of the Pioneer contract that affects all the Madonna concerts that is mentioned on Wikipedia:

During the late 1980s, Pioneer signed contracts with major music artists, such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, and others, to release their concerts on Laserdisc only through Pioneer. To this date, the contracts are still standing, and the concerts have not been re-released on DVD by Pioneer or others. An exception is the Genesis LD of "The way we walk" , which was released to DVD in October 2002, under the Pioneer label

Does anyone know anything about this contract or know details of all the affected titles?

Also the movies sound better and in some cases look better.
Like the GODFATHER 3 transfer looks better than the dvd.

Purchased a DVD of "Wild Man Blues" through an eBay seller - it was released in Canada, evidently (does that count?).

Re: Laserdisc titles still not available on DVD?

Don't get me started about movies that are WS on LD and P&S on DVD or are correct WS on LD and monkeyed 1.78:1 or stretched 1.85:1 on DVD. That list would keep many of us here for many posts.

Here are some I know about.

Abbott & Costello in Rio Rita
Alvin & the Chipmunks go to the movies
Amazing Spiderman Cartoon double feature
Captain America (1990)
Making Star Wars / Sp FX Empire (not even on any of the DVD special features)
the Planets - hosted by Patrick Stewart
Spiderman TV Series episodes
the Squeeze (starring Michael Keaton)
Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special
Steel (starring Shaq)
Stryper - In the Beginning
Stryper - Live in Japan

Somebody Has to Shoot the Picture was released on DVD by GoodTimes in 1999. It's fullscreen, and has since gone out of print, but it has appeared on Region 1 DVD.
