How Often Does DVDProfiler Update?
 

I have noticed that not all the DVDs I have been buying are in their system. Stuff like Full House: Season Five and The New Adventures of He-Man are not in there.

I don't get it.

Updates are available weekly, usually available on Tuesdays. You could create the profiles and upload. Their profile criteria is pretty strict, though. Sometimes, I will create a profile in my own database, and wait for someone to post the "official" version. Now updating the software is a completely different story... I think it's been at least a year & a half since the last software update.

The DVD updates for the most part are input by Profiler users & must be accepted before they allow the actual addition to the database. What I do in order to save a shitload of time is type in the UPC, press enter, it'll say its not found & ask for the UPC again, retype it then put in the title & save the DVD. Then come a month down the road after someone else has added it to the database, you can run the profile updates & get all the latest info. If a title is really obscure, then of course I'll go through & fill out everything & submit it myself.

When I don't see a title I put it in a stack to update later but that is irksome. Then I'll want to watch something on the stack and take it out, forget that it's not in the system yet and thus have a DVD missing from my records. Your suggestion is much better.

You're welcome! If only it was as easy keeping up with the bonus discs, hardly anyone ever adds them into the database.

nothing goes in the to be watched pile until it is entered into profiler. even if it is just a sku and a title, it will be input to profiler then when an update for it, it will download. this way i dont "miss" a title

that bothers me to no end. Also, if someone has an exclusive disc, like the two pack spiderman 2 that walmart had, or the dane cook vicious circle dvd with the t-shirt that best buy had, those are never in there either

If you don't like your movies not being listed, you're always welcome to submit profiles. That's what the term "user built database" means. 100% of the data comes from the users. But as has already been mentioned, you must be very anal or you'll likely have your submissions declined.

As for bonus discs, those aren't normally accepted into the main database except in special circumstances. So chances are, you won't find them.

I do my part to enter in profiles when I have the time to help do my part. Lately I certainly have noticed that a number of the DVDs have next to no info with them. I'm trying to help with the DVDs I have bought but I don't have the time to enter every single one in.

I have decided to give it a shot as well (not sure how anal I must be)...since I have close to 100 discs that are not in their system. I am not quite so sure how to beat the system though as there are some major loops in it. For example if i wanted to enter the recent Greek Angelopoulos' titles I am not sure how to do it as Greek is not a language-option! I also have quite a few Czech classic discs that can not be entered as there is no Czech-adutio option. Same with Bulgarian and Slovenian.

I will however attempt to scan and enter most of the discs that I have.

You can enter the bonus discs in the same fashion as entering the UPC. Except, put your bonus disc in your drive with DVD Profiler running, and the add new dvd's screen up.
There is a tab for add by Disc ID. But, make sure you uncheck the box that says (I'm at work so paraphrasing here) prompt for download from DVD Profiler site. This will allow you to add the disc to your collection and won't give you the error saying it doesn't exist.
Then, when you do your updates, if anyone has updated the bonus disc, it will have to be by disc ID and it will update yours too.

Someone mentioned one time, that this is a good way to check to see if you've bought a fake too.

If you're talking about "popular" movies (and it sounds like you're not), you'll have to be very precise. They have rules listed on their site that will get you through all the hard parts. If you're not willing to follow the rules religiously, give it a week or two and someone else will add it for you.

But with the kind of stuff you're talking about, I doubt you'll have any issues. It's not only a user built database, but the users vote on contributions as well. So if you're stuff is rare enough that it's not already in the database, then probably no one owns it and there won't be anyone to vote no (it's has to be part of your collection to vote on a title). There are some basic things that will get an automatic rejection (like a bad UPC), but beyond that, it's pretty easy.

I've submitted lots of "kid" stuff or documentary titles that wasn't there or needed filled out more. But with the big titles, I don't mess with it. There are users far more anal than I who will do the work anyway. And I avoid a lot of headaches that way.

So is anyone else having trouble accessing DVD Profiler online? (Sorry about the dupe post, but this is a better thread to ask in).

all these problems are why you should use dvd spot. i havent had one single movie bought that wasnt in the system.

I've had a few with DVD Spot, although I submit them when I have the time. Mostly music related DVDs.

I've had to submit a handful to DVDSpot, but it's quick and easy.

I've submitted 21 to DVDSpot. As a DVDSpot and DVDProfiler user, I can honestly say that I've not noticed one missing a significant amount of titles versus the other. I'm not sure where you're getting your facts from.

Seems like DVDProfiler missed last week's update. Night at the Museum Blu-Ray and Planet Earth Blu-Rat aren't in there from last week, and this week Fletch JDE and Michael Palin: Around the World.... are MIA.

They will continue to miss updates until their pending legal situation is resolved.

Yep, for now enter the UPC codes (make sure it's correct) and do the title yourself, along with any other information that's important to you. If and when it gets sorted out, you can download the profiles with all of the info.

BTW, that's a funny typo: Blu-Rat. :)
