I'm pretty anal with the condition of my DVD too. But I don't think I would go to the store to buy another copy, then return the damaged one to that store unless they were purchased from that store originally. Instead, I would just politely tell the DVD giver that I collect DVD in mint condition and that I prefer all my DVDs in that condition. Hopefully this way, they won't give you another damaged DVD in the future. Otherwise, they wouldn't know and might continue to give you another damaged DVD in the future and you would have to go through the hassle of exchanging again.

Dude... CALM DOWN!!!!!!

They where gifts and thus you didn't have to spend the $25 to purchase them. You should be happy with that!

Not really, it's your preference to have pristine DVDs in your collection, including gifts. I soon realized that most people are oblivious to dents and dings in the packaging of in their DVDs (either that or they simply don't care). I happen to be one of the folks that do care, but I tend to not go through the hassle of returning for pristine packaging in the case of a gift. I just don't display those prominently (and I do have a storage place for less than pristine DVDs). This behavior does cause my husband to raise his eyebrows ever so often :D, but he knew who he was marrying before he walked down the aisle ;-).

"I have a cage in the basement for less than pristine things... like my DVDs... and my husband."
