For about 100 bucks, I'll be able to get 6 criterion FILMS.

Do you guys think this a good deal, and is worth going for?

Am I choosing the right films?

I've heard good things about them, so I hope their good.

I've actually heard some mixed stuff with Mamma Roma, though.

its a decent deal, but not a wow deal. all of the movies are good. Pasolini seems to either be loved or hated...i have never met anyone who knew much of his work who didn't have a side to take....though on the internet, I'm sure someone will claim it

Mamma Roma is good, but it is not one of Pasolini's best (Accatone, Salo, The Gospel According to St. Matthew, etc.) The extras on the second disc are very good. La riccota is the standout extra. The documentary on his career provides a nice overview.

Harakiri is a very good film, but the extras are extremely slim for a two disc set.

Samurai Rebellion and Kill! are both excellent, but the rest of the titles in the Rebel Samurai box set are somewhat mediocre. The set contains very few extras.

There are definitely dozens of Criterion titles that are better films and better special editions. A cumulative price of $100 for the six films is ok, but not exceptional.

You could get these new from DVD Planet for $116.91... and, by playing the Google checkout game, you could save another $20-30 (depending on how you split up the orders.)
