Yes it is realistic... The first release with replacement music bombed. Hopefully Shout! got that message loud and clear and is doing this release correctly.

It would be really nice if Shout would give consumers a heads-up on what to expect from their upcoming releases instead of all of these vague press releases and we'll tell you laters.

Halloween and Nightbreed, I'm looking at you...

Shout is still working on clearing music for this release. They're possibly at around 85% (according to a quote from show creator Hugh Wilson).

If the show has 500 songs/bits to clear (based on 5 or so per episode) which would be an absolute minimum guess then they would still be unable to clear 75.

Deal breaker songs/bits that must be on this set include:

01. Jennifer's doorbell
02. Foreigner's Hot Blooded (as Les puts on wig)
03. Pink Floyd's Dogs (whole scene)
04. Elton John/Bernie Taupin's Tiny Dancer (lyrics spoken)
05. John Lennon's Imagine (lyrics spoken)
06. song contest snippets

These are just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure there are other key moments I'll remember later. If any of these are replaced then it's NO SALE for me.

Finally some solid info! Do you have a source for this info? A link perhaps?

As for John Lennon's Imagine, you might as well leave the episode off the disc if they don't get this one. How could they do it at all?

And the snippet contest may not need it because I believe they have to play enough of a song to be recognizable, unless that rule doesn't apply once they NAME the song, which obviously they do.

Anyway, thanks for the post!

I'd add Jingle Dogs because it's a punch line, Earth Wind & Fire - After the Love is Gone, and the Patton Theme, the replacement is terrible.

No John Lennon, either. Foreigner and Elton John made it though.

There was always going to be complete hold-outs, or rights holders demanding more money than the DVDs sales would have ever brought in.

Taking a look at the list of artists they DID get clearance for, I'm amazed. It's a huge chunk of change to drop on a release with such a small potential audience. It's a damn shame if the lyrics to "Imagine" didn't get clearance, but I'm impressed with the effort Shout made and the success they have had. I'm really looking forward to this set.

I agree. I hope Shout makes money on this set just for the effort itself of getting most of the music.

Although there are some heartbreaking omissions, shout did a phenomenal job with this set. For a very comprehensive breakdown - scroll down to post 218 then look at post 356
