Ever buy Full Screen because of price?

'cause i did. i was so ashamed to. i hesitated for awhile, but when Target had their Black Friday sale the FS was only $5.49, the WS was not. i wanted the movie and see it again and seeing as it's the price of a rental i had to bite. i have some remorse and it does keep me up some nights...

Seantn 12-07-06 06:01 PM

You're going to hell.

GoldenJCJ 12-07-06 06:05 PM

I'd be ashamed to have it in my collection...no matter how cheap it was.

Joe Molotov 12-07-06 06:05 PM

No.

DeanoBKN 12-07-06 06:18 PM

Never. I wouldn't even care if the FS was $4.99 and the wide was $19.99.

mdc3000 12-07-06 06:19 PM

what movie? Although, no it wouldn't make a difference...I still would never buy full screen unless it was the OAR

Apone 12-07-06 06:21 PM

I wouldn't take fullscreen DVDs even for money.

Kakkarat 12-07-06 06:24 PM

no, never. assuming of course that full screen is MAR for the given title

matome 12-07-06 06:36 PM

No.

Sabrett 12-07-06 06:38 PM

I guess I'm the first to say yes. I actually have quite a few of them in my collection, and yes, I know the difference between WS and FS. Just a choice...

MisterHowie 12-07-06 06:41 PM

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Ginwen 12-07-06 06:42 PM

Nope. I've sadly had to settle for a few movies on full screen due to that being the only version available of movies I really wanted (Miracle Mile, Star 80, some others I won't mention because I don't want to start an argument about the director's intent) but I wouldn't ever get it just because it was cheaper. In VHS days I usually paid more for wide screen in the rare event it was available at all.

Same here. The only modified full-screen dvd title I have is 976-EVIL, and that's because it was only released in that format.

Brent L 12-07-06 06:49 PM

The only times that I ever buy FS is when:

-It's the film's OAR.
-It's the only version released.

Then half the time I wont even bother buying it if it's only in FS unless it's just something that I really, really want.

wow, that's funny i didn't mention it. It is "Wedding Crashers" (Uncorked). i mean this isn't a movie that is enhanced by the dvd experience and going to ever be reference quality, so...

ps) i promise i will never ever do it again.

mrhan 12-07-06 07:02 PM

I'm still holding out for a widescreen version of "No Man's Land" (1986). I'm still pissed that MGM never released it in widescreen.

porieux 12-07-06 07:03 PM

Never, but I bought Take the Money and Run not realizing it was FS.

I still haven't opened it...unfortunately I didn't notice until it was too late too return..

DarthVong 12-07-06 07:09 PM

Hang him!!

dx23 12-07-06 07:39 PM

You have joined the dark side. Or in this case the hick side.

starman9000 12-07-06 07:42 PM

I got Can't Buy Me Love and Grumpy Old Men in fullscreen...but I believe that's the only way to get them. (I didn't know they were fullscreen when I got them, but I didn't get rid of them due to this being there only presentation)

Off topic, but have they started releasing "fullscreen" titles in 16:9 yet? Like titles that have an OAR of 2.35:1?

I wonder if this is a trend that will start.

me too, i'd say half of my early part of my collection is in FS. i would see the widescreen and say, i don't have a widescreen tv, so why not get the fullscreen. i guess when i started get more dvds i didn't realize there was a difference between widescreen and fullscreen.

Matt.train 12-07-06 07:49 PM

No, it could not be cheap enough for me to buy. rather pay extra. Please movie companies dont read this...

No, they haven't started it yet with HD. There was "Lord of War" on DVD, but that was eventually corrected.

BTW, why wasn't the widescreen version that cheap at Target? I assume they just didn't have it stock. I hate it when places like Wal-Mart stop carrying the widescreen versions after a month or two, so when a title shows up cheap in an ad, you can't pricematch it there because they only have FS at that point. (This only affects those of us who don't live near a place like Best Buy.)
