Yet ANOTHER Stargate Re-Release on DVD
Feast your eyes. Apologize if this is already been reported; did a search and saw nothing.

They're just abusing Stargate now.
|
Molesting it, is more like it.
OPTIMUM RESOLUTION DVD rotfl |
Lion$Gate pulling the same thing they did with the Total Recall-THX release which was also released with NO fanfare & from what I've read of someone who got it: No features & by no ways improved quality audio/video. Just getting the title back in stores the cheapest way possible. Shameful.

If it fixes that glitch in the latest release it might almost be worth it as a replacement.

Huge fan of SG here, and I doubt I will be picking this up. I mean, they barely changed the cover! Maybe it the cover was different, I might buy it for a display (once again, huge fan) but this is ridiculous.

There's nothing more satisfying than a re-release that doesn't tempt me at all.
Enough already ...... |

Anywho, I'll pass. |
Sticking with my DTS-ES DC.

raze5000 or nemein, clue me in--I have both releases and would like to compare and contrast this issue myself.

The previously released Ultimate Edition Extended Cut DVD of Stargate had an issue with a burn mark on the film, found here as an example:
http://media.dvd.ign.com/media/497/4...g_1659776.html The new release of Stargate does not have this artifact. The video transfer for this DVD looks similar to the Ultimate Edition DVD transfer from what I can remember, but I'm wondering if it might be encoded at a higher bit-rate perhaps? Also, the new DVD has no extra features, and no DTS track. |
Hmm, sure enough:
http://aycu32.webshots.com/image/875...8866876_rs.jpg http://aycu16.webshots.com/image/829...7418924_rs.jpg Yes, even though color and detail remain very similar to the Ultimate Edition, the print used is certainly cleaner. Not a major reason to upgrade, but better than the one for TOTAL RECALL. |
I don't mind artifacts in any print used as long as it isn't constantly occuring (like hair that stays on a print in a transfer for a little while, only to pop back up again, that's annoying). So I see no reason to upgrade despite the print looking much cleaner, thanks for posting the screenshots Filmmaker!

of all movies to re-release, I'll be sticking to my ultimate ed.

Enough already ...... If I had the Ultimate Edition of Stargate, I might-- might-- pick up this one just because the burn mark is gone. But that would be a tough choice, even for a movie that I loved. If Titanic was reissued with that frame of Jack Dawson cleaned up, but no special features, I don't think I could bring myself to dip again. --THX |
