Don't think I ever watched this series but I'm sure I'll pick it up. For anyone who's seen it, how is it compared to the original?

I never watched it, but I remember the toys when they came out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was more sci-fi, with He-man/Skeletor in the future or something.

I only have vague recollections of it. It does take place in space and if I'm not mistaken the only thing it shares in common with the original series is that the main hero and villain are He-Man and Skeletor.

I've bought all the He-man and She-ra sets so far, but I won't be buying this.
And since you asked... the show is terrible. I tried to watch it when it originally aired (I was about 14), and it actually made me sad to see what they had done to He-man and friends. It really has no connection to the original at all. It got so bad, there was actually a villain named Butt-Head. i stopped watching after that.

DVD Talk Ultimate Edition
I remember watching this when I was a kid and we still have a few of the toys. I just recently bought a bootleg copy of the series from a convention, this was before they announced they would release it, and it's pretty bad, but I plan on buying this if it's cheap.

If you can block the original out of your mind and treat this release as a seperate entity, it's actually a very good and well written series. It's true that it's wildly different, but there's a lot of shout-outs to the classic as well. For example:
-the Sorceress appears quite often to Adam through telepathy.
- King Randor and Queen Marlena are in the first episode.
- the star ship is named after Eternia "Starship Eternia"
etc.

I guess it was a TV movie before the series started.
