Can't Play DVD

I have retail DVD and it having problems playing on my brand new stand alone DVD player,but plays fine on DVD drive and my DVD player plays all DVDs,but not the one with region 2 and my DVD player Is region free so what could be the problem as far as I know there are no defective retail DVDs.

So your player support PAL DVDs, but does it convert the signal to NTSC or does it just plays the DVD and pass it out to the TV in PAL? Does your TV support PAL?
