Another DVD Challenge Idea

How about in like February or March we do a challenge to watch so many academy award winning films in the month?

Anyone?

R_3 10-31-06 10:26 PM

Does this mean best picture or any academy award category?

RobCA 10-31-06 10:54 PM

Sounds good, especially if you mean any category, not just Best Picture.

Yeah, any category...it could have won one award and it would be okay

JerryKILL 11-01-06 10:39 AM

I think even "nominees" should count, really opens the door to many films, and interesting lists.

Drexl 11-01-06 10:46 AM

Doesn't Turner Classic Movies show an academy award-winning movie each night of the month of the awards? That could help get people some more to watch.

I thought of that too. Sure why not?

I'm all for it. Any Oscar nominated film. But I would have the contest in January or February. The Oscars are on 2/25/07. This would be a better contest as all genres are allowed. It's tough for me to devote an entire month to 1 type of film. Plus, you can watch Armageddon and it would count. :)

...and My Cousin Vinny! :D

I like the idea of including Oscar nominees, I don't think I'd have all that many DVDs that qualify if it was just winners... looking forward to this!

I'm up for this one too. Feb would be a good month IMHO.

funny, I was thinking March... :D

no, there's March Madness, so nix that idea

exharrison 11-01-06 03:45 PM

^Yeah, I'm ACC-territory born and raised. March is consumed by basketball.

NoirFan 11-01-06 04:41 PM

Sounds good. Also like to do a film noir month, or a month for every decade.

JerryKILL 11-01-06 05:00 PM

Horror, Christmas and Academy Awards I've been doing for a few years, so already in my schedule. I also do months for "animation" (all types thereof), and one month I call "Schlock-O-Rama" (inspired by Al Adamson, includes all types of 'schlock' cinema). I need to do a TV-on-DVD month to catch up with all of those box sets.

John Galt 11-01-06 05:02 PM

What about an AFI Top 100 month? There's quite a few different top 100 lists that they have out.

kitkat 11-01-06 05:46 PM

That sounds like fun. I'm not particularly interested in horror or holiday films - while there are plenty of examples of both genres that I do enjoy, I'd sooner gouge my eyes out than devote an entire month to either - but this i could get behind. I think i might play along if this goes forward, seeing as you all seem to have a good time doing these.

starman9000 11-01-06 07:14 PM

Seems like limiting it to Oscar Winners would be better. There would still be a lot of movies to chose from. Oscar nominated seems almost to broad to bother with.

Mao 11-01-06 10:55 PM

However, you could simply watch TCM's "30 Days of Oscar" and hit the jackpot! :)
